Havent played much poker lately. Right now I'm enjoying my last days here in Prague (will go back to Belgium in 3-4 days), also because two (girl)friends of me are on visit atm. But when I'm back in Belgium I'm gonna try plan things more out, finding balance between playing/coaching/parties/travelling/sports/uni.

Last evening in Prague is getting very close (tonight ). So tomorrow I fly back to Belgium.

Today I had my first real pokersession of the month and it went good. Played for 6 hours and could win a couple of buy ins, due to 6 hours of play I was 500bb deep on 3 of the 4 tables ♦. On one table I really lost a lot of buy ins but whatever. I really heart deepstacked play because it justifies my stationish :P.

Didnt play that much stud lately but will start this when i'm back home, because I also ordered 2 stud books, I hope they already arrived :f_love:.

Last days I played a good amount of poker again, but I still need to grind some more to get a decent month in terms of $$. I'm also studying the game more. Reading some good books and watching some nice vids of very good coaches. Also did first coachings with 3 students and looking forward to talk to them again.

Today I also picked Stud back up. I'm through Sklanksy frist chapter right now and I improved a lot i think (3th street play).

Ok, last days I'm playing on Stars again. Basically because I just love playing there (software/support) and such and because I want to get to higher limits, which is ofc not possible in rush, NL200 is the sky. So yesterday my mind came up with an insane idea, which i would like to share with you guys.

Reach supernova elite status by the end of December.

This is not a goal yet, its just something I might consider doing, ofc there are things that favor it and things that dont:

+: - I am a grinder: whatever I do to decrease my amount of tables (getting more reads, climb limits, blablabla), it just doesnt work for me, my concentration level decreases dramatically if I dont have to make decisions all the time. So by playing 20-24 tables I feel better than playing just 6-9.
- Really nice bonus offer: 55% rb if I succeed this year, more next year because I'll have a bigger multiplier
- Motivation to play more: I see it as a challenge, right now I'm still wasting too much time on random internet surfing.
- I can still think clearly when playing a lot of tables --> I can still think of spots and improve my game (obv less than if I play 9 tables, but thats hard for me), I can still write down hands which I can put in the judge forum.
- I'm startin to play much more on NL400 (vpps goes little bit faster there) and I feel confident I can move up to NL600 in the time span of 2-3 months

-: - I need to play a loooooooooooooooooooot: 1/3 of the year is already gone so I need to accumulate 950k VPPs in just 8 months, which will be on average 5h/day from now on till the end of the year which ofc is a lot. I think I can make it when I start in January but now its a bit tougher.
- Chance of becoming a mindless grinder who gets stuck at nl200 to be a be player.
- Possibility that social life will suffer

Ofc there are many more (dis/)advantages but it is just something I thought about yesterday. I'll know that there will be lovers and haters, so I'd love to hear your opinion about this matter.

I think youre going to end up burned out in maybe a month. Having a "must" to play 5hrs/day is gonna mess up your mind I think and it's not worth to be that way for the bigger part of a year I think :/

oh man, dont do it.. even though i am pretty sure its doable..so bad for your overall progress.. and i am also positive abt u having to play more than 5h/day, but even if it was "just" that.. with all holidays, days off, school w/e it will prolly avg into 7h of play per playing days. that means working more than a normal person, coz u have to sometimes analyse etc.. watch vids, read articles.. so altogether poker is going to totally sap your surrounding life, losing most of social contacts etc... not worth 100k/year i dont think. u can be making 100k/month on highstakes with enjoyable life, and its much more of a longterm investment to be willing to improve more than taking the immediate money.

Why are so many poker plays sooooo lazy? ^^^^

Playing 5 hours everyday is not the way to go obviously but playing 8 hours or 9 hours and 1 hour study is.
In england the average person works 8-10 hours a day weighted towards the latter end of that.

I don't know the numbers but I would say you could make it by playing 8-9 hours with 1 hour of study and two days off a week, or better still 1 & 1/2 days off a week.

Make a plan, see if it is doable and if it is then do it

I average 6-8 hours of playing time with 1-2 hours study time 6 days a week.
I manage to have a life and every person working a 9-5+ travel time manages it.....Why can't poker players??

Just posting to tell that I had a grindday today.

Played 6.2 hours and played 8.1k hands (6.7-1.4). It was a losing session, but I ran very cold so I'm not gonna take conclusions yet ofc on 'i cant handle 24tables' etc, lost $800, EV is at 100 and I also got set over set 2 times in nl400. But this dont bothers me that much. I just have to make sure I always play my a or good b game but lately i dont have many problems doing so.

6 - 7 hours play in 1.5 - 2 hour blocks is pretty easily acheived IMO. Just schedule in breaks so you do have days away from poker. The relentless grind can get tough during difficult periods mindset/results wise (in my limited experience).

@ lennonac: that's true, but dont forget 1 thing: i would assume >50% of us pros play poker not mainly cuz of moniez or cuz we like soulreading so much. the main advantage that poker (like trading/investing) gives u, is sickest freedom on earth. u can travel around as much as u like, party like a monkey, play golf/tennis/whateva all day long ... to make it short, u can enjoy life more than the average guy who works 9-5 and earns 2k.

hence, we dont want to "work" 9-5 but rather decide more spontaneously what we're going to do every day. ofc, we have a basic schedule, but if we feel the need, we just take our cabrio and drive down to cote d'azur, costa del sol or whereever or just decide to chill out, lose some sidebets on the golf course or make some nl10 instructional video

life is short and world is big. just too much to see imo to work too much (says sb who many would call a sick grinder btw, i always play 100k hands/month, so im far from lazy ... + i coach and make videos and work on my world domination plans )

to make it short: i dont think we are lazy, but rather enjoying life a bit more than average guys. as a consequence, 40 hour working weeks are rare for some of us.

@ jonas: i like the idea of your challenge. however, i think its almost impossible cuz u def. need 200k rake and thats rly not that easy to make in 8 months. especially if u plan on having some holidays and sick parties.
just 5 hours per day doesnt sound so much, make sure u calculated it right. cuz 5 working days a week à ~ 7-8 hours sounds duable + u have 2 days off.
but why dont u just test out all the sites, learn some new games like stud etc and improve your game this year and start sicko SNE action 01/2011. within 1 year, that goal seems to be achievable way easier.

@ all: SNE gives ~ 115k rb, right? and we need to make ~ 200k rake, right?

does anybody know, how much rb we get @ ps when making ~100k rake (let's say on nl400sh/fr? does that equal SN5?)

just from my experience at stars last year, rb is rly poorly if u are just SN2 or so. it was below 30% for me.

maybe i also go for SNE in 2011, so if anybody could tell me exactly how much rake i need to make for that shit, i would be grateful.

I have been playing about 4-5 hours a day at NL200 FR mixed with other limits for the past 3-4 months and I only have 200k VPPs. I think you either play 10 hours a day or you won't be able to make it.

Just brief update:

Thx all for replying, I will take everything that has been said in consideration. From today on I will play for 1 week long as I would want to reach SNE. I'll make seven daily updates with amount of hands, VPP and mood swings or whatever. Just to get good numbers of how long I will need to play and try to get a feel for the length of the playing days etc. I also have some things planned this week (2parties, bios night, live poker night, so those will count for the 2 days off thingie).

I never had big downswings in my poker career (mainly because major swings are uncommon in fr) but in the last 3-4 days I'm down more than 20BI (nl200 and nl400) and the money just flows out of my account. I still am pretty confident that I just run terribad but the confidence in my game is diminishing every second. If I lose more than 7 extra buy in the next 2-3 days I'm gonna regroup at nl200 16 tables at max. Also next days I wont play nl400, I first got to make sure I can make some profit again and gain confidence..

I can emphatise with you as i was going through that same shit for the past two weeks, losing 50 BI. i was running really hot yesterday for the first time and you ran really shitty against me.

I want to ask you about your thoughts for various hands. Maybe I can learn a bit from metagame stuff. I usually don't play much at yesterday's timing (I don't play at night cause it's noisy) so I probably won't be facing against you much.

1) J5 vs AJ on J54s in a 3bet pot. Standard is probably to call Flop and Turn, shut down on river cause it's an overpair. What made you decide to minraise the flop, given how little history I had with you. Were you expecting some spazz shove?

2) air vs KQ on 368sQs3. I think raising the turn is fine on my part since you are going to be leading more than half the time after I checked back I think. Once you called I think you have a Queen 90% of the time. I wasn't too sure if you would dare to call an overbet so I decided to do it and in hindsight it was a baaad move since i didn't rep anything. My question is if the river brought a third spade, would you fold? Since I can represent a turned flushdraw.

3) 99 vs 22 on 269rT.
I bet flop you raise. Board is so dry, I have the board crushed pretty much and I think you are capable of making moves so I min3bet you back, hoping you potentially spazz out (I doubt it) or at least try to float me. So on the turn I check, hoping you float and then I can check/shove. When you bet small I knew it was an inducer so I just shoved it, knowing that you probably wouldn't bet so small with a bluff. Would you play AA this way?
My question is about your thoughts about my image. Do you think I'm a lunatic? Given how I min3bet you in the J5 hand with top two, did the crazy play at Hand 2 stick in your mind so much?
