Hey guys,
As we're speaking a lott about notes taking, patrick asked me to post a note template I found v. useful. Not mine, somebody else's.

It basically forces you to set up a strategy vs villain. Think the 3rd category might be useless once the 4th is full.

Taking notes

I have spoke passionately in skype groups, sweat sessions, msn convos, forums and 1on1 about how passionately I am about take notes. Taking notes can be a huuuuuge advantage and really help you out. I'd like to say firstly.. you shouldn't do exactly what I do with note taking, I've tried in the past to do different methods and generally when it's forced its not going to be as effective.

Talk to yourself

In your notes you should give yourself some questions and try to answer them as you play longer with the player.

Example 1

First of all I will talk about the standard note taking that you caan get "used" to doing. Afterwards BenPS, will post a template about a second way of taking notes and I will try to discuss/talk about it.

NL100 13/11/2011
3bets different amounts c/o vs button, find out what small raise means
cbets 33% on dry board value? bluff?
cbets 55% on wet board what does this mean?
turn cbet size is 75% on "scary turn" value? bluff?
turn cbet size is 40% (setting up river jam) on blank turn - how to exploit?

So the above are the kind of detailed observations that I like to take in cash games and will do for players I have played 200-600 hands with.

As time goes on I will like to cement everything into solid reads.

NL100

- Small 3b co vs btn = weak hand that he is happy to 5b shove with. (A9s, 55, KJ)
- Cbets 33% otf as a bluff in position when blinds defend
- Big turn bet size on overcard = barreling bluff
- Small turn bet size on ANY card is setting up river shove
- close to 1:1 ptsr on river = bluff 1.5-1 set up = strong hand
- Insta jams river when setting up river bluff
- Takes 10 seconds or so to jam when jamming river for value

I also really enthusiastic about torunament notes and think they are probably alotttttt more important than cash game reads.

Moorman1 (example)

PRE
- Flats KK to an EP raise after pre ante
- 3x after ante in rebuy with big hand, 2.5x with bluff/semi bluff
- 3b shoved 25bbs with 22 btn vs bb against nit
- 4b shoved 32bbs w/aq against large 3bet mp vs co
- 3b folded w/27bbs
- cold 4bet shoved 88 for 45bbs, btn, vs sb, vs bb
- raise/called 22bbs w/k10o vs nit
- called AA in bb vs utg raise and c/r kj2 flop 70bbs deep.
- Open jammed k2ss for 19bbs into 2 nits
= Open jammed 74o for 14bbs into 2 nits
- Raises flop really quickly when bluffing

Flop
- big cbet = big hand in small stakes
- called raise otb w/32bbs vs co and clicked back/called shove on 723ss w/88

Turn
- Floated 245cc w/KJcx and shoved on Qs turn after 50% turn bet from fish

River
- Shoves alot of rivers as bliffs
- Jammed 88 on 763JA after villain bet, bet, checked for 1.3x pot
- Jammed 910ss on 782sdd 3s Kc when villain bet, bet, checked for 0.8x pot
- Just called river with jj on 891072r

do you make these (pre/flop/turn/river notes) in-game or complete them in a review afterwards?

every single poker player including myself values themselves too highly.

have you met roo, jb and myself? :f_biggrin: fine alright in case they get mad i am only speaking for myself. :f_cool:

I write alot of notes in game but if action is fast I just rush it and make a note to clear them up later at the end of the session.

Yes, although just to reiterate, NL10 6max 4 tables without a HUDF is not my normal game

Doing a challenge to try and prove to people tha you can win without solely focusing on HEM

Why is that?

People can manipulate you soooo much and things play differently as 18bb to 27bbs is total different stack, as is 40bb, 70bb, 100bbs, 7bbs etc, players will generally have leaks at some stages of MTT's whether that is that they are too tight with 70bbs, or if they spew toio much with 25bbs, theres so much critical information that if you get wrogn can cost you 5 figures worth of equity. In cg, its alotttttt more kinda std.

Common mate... :) Of course the decisions matters. But if you make the right decisions eventually you should have the proportionate results.. I mean IN THE LOOONG TERM........as we all know. If your objection was because I forgot to mention the Loooong term factor I apologize. I just thought it was obvious.
PS
We are still talking about poker here right ?? :)

I'm definitely going to think more about note taking from now on.

Just as an aside, do you think not using a HUD will affect your win rate at all? Although you can beat the games (I'm sure at a very good rate) aren't you giving up part of the edge that a HUD gives you.

Good luck - am going to be following.

Sure Joniko, I think it will damage my wr quite alot, but I really want to focus on reads that I've made rather than just yeh, i need X range to make this play unexploitable etc etc

I suppose that our microstakes community petition to cancel your account was successfull, No way that we can tolerate player with such huge winrate at NL10 :f_cool:

Live chat works fine for me. I open partypoker.com, select "contact us" at upper right of the page, and when new page oppens, scroll down and click live chat. I don't know what browser you use. I use Chrome, and it works.

P.S.
You can also contact PP support by phone, Spain is listed for local call.
