Quick and VERY IMPORTANT UPDATE!

Guys, I did it. I am officially starting tomorrow to play on my own again

Today I stated with close to -440$ from starting bankroll. I decided to do 1 buy in stop loss for 60$ to make it -500$ if I drop it. I played 1 table of that while 2 tabling 15s. I got 4x there and won it. Continued to take shots and played 15 more minutes before hitting cinema. Before going to cinema my starting balance was -150$...
I got back from cinema and said to myself, nothing changes, I got until -500$ to take shots which is 6 buy ins. So I continued 3 tabling 60s with 6 buy ins stop loss.
Result is amazing because I ended the day from -440$ to over 1800$ profit !!!
So 2.2k and more in 3+ hours of grind at home today.
Towards the end I took some shots on 100s (3 games, 1 buy in stop loss) and I made 100$ in those 3 games...

So great news is that from 5k profit that I set up with my great friend by 15th of May, I have surpassed that in 2 weeks or so of playing. That is 5k+ profit in less then 2 weeks, pretty sick. Thanks to taking shots on 30s in February, continuing with it in March, then that sick stop loss for 60s, making money and dropping down, adding 2 buy ins stop loss for 100s, making 1k profit there, dropping back to 15s, dropped 20ish buy ins on 15s, set up 1 buy in stop loss for 60s and rest is history.

So starting tomorrow I will play with my own money 15s 3 tabling.

Plan for the remaining of the month is to just play 15s with my money. I want the next 4k that I make to use to improve my BR for 15s, have whole br for 7s for my best friend and invest in PIO. That is the 1st step with those 3 mini steps in it.
My expectation with 3 tabling is strong. I expect to have strong EV hourly there on 15s so I will see what happens or how long it will take me to make next 4k starting today.

Feeling over the moon with this monetary accomplishment considering that when I got back to Serbia from Thailand on 2nd of February I was in make up 1400$!!! Less then 1.5 month later, I made well over 6-7k! I worked very hard since December, fixed 2 major leaks in my game and tons of other smaller ones + improved more on my hand reading and glad to see the monetary reward happening as well for such effort

However, despite this great monetary result, I am aware where my leaks are and am thrilled to keep improving with my friend crusher + to push myself to reaching new levels of my knowledge and improvement. Hourly improvement will come with it obviously.

So starting tomorrow, my BR on Stars is 200 buy ins for 15s even though I have more then that now thanks to extra money I made today but I will use 200 buy ins to 3 table 15s.

I will in the next days treat my family, best friend and great friend who supported my and provided bankroll for me since December 2016.
I haven't put all the numbers since then but I believe he invested 3k euro and got back well over 1.3k euro. So close to 50% ROI in about 3 months. Sweet investment!
And I made to my friend crusher in 1 month of us working together over 1k euro as well. Very happy about them, they deserve every single cent!

Enjoy your weekend on and off the tables and thank you for following my journey in 2017 to keep improving and pushing outside of comfort zone in my poker career!

And please run good and move up to the 30s soon - the fact that such an insightful crusher as you is yet earning so little is making me utterly depressed about the future of all of us.

Hi mate,

I used to use table ninja back 2-3 years ago or more when I was 12-17 tabling 6 max sngs. But I used it very little. There was some software I used to register into games but forgot the name of it.
For Spins I just use Stars of course.

Quick update

No poker 2 days due to celebrating recent success of starting to play on my own.

I did bet on Serbian football again and won 229 euro today . Played on Napredak and Javor, 2.95 and 2 betting odd for 75$ and 100$. They both won 1-0 :)

Now going to meet female friend who is coming from other town. My body is exhsausted because I got super drunk and was throwing up in the morning. Will restrict myself with this girl as tomorrow I have 2 guitar lessons, 2 poker sessions and plan to grind as well. Spending whole night with girl and drinking partying doesn't fit well with things set for tomorrow.

Lets see what happens - enjoy remaining of your weekend!

Wow, I didn't know you're into BDSM :fouet: :f_eek:

Just kidding. It's sad to hear that you still haven't managed to stop drinking alcohol :f_cry:

The moderator of the psychology forum of the Russian community, Paulique, used to be a heavy drinker but now he's more or less recovered. Still, he has that valuable experience of defeating his own addiction. Now he's studying psychotherapy at a university in Kiev and has been approved by Pokerstrategy to give private consultations for $25 an hour. His main techniques are mindfulness meditation and gestalt therapy. I can't testify for or against his service as I haven't tried it myself yet.

Xexe nice one Tony

I am not trying to quit drinking it all together. I don't go out very often and when I do I don't nowhere near always drink. There are very special dates in my life that I like to celebrate with alcohol also so those dates end up being spew heavy with liquor. Other then that don't feel that I have problem with it. I don't drink at home nor feel the need for alcohol. But thanks for thinking of me and offering insightful and constructive advice - that is always appreciated in my book!

Whats up gang, IvicaIliev77 here!

Couple of things to update on
- Volume on poker 3rd day super low
- My health situation is getting worse. Had back pain 2 days and today I got sore throught. It is that feeling before getting sick.
- Won very nice amounts betting on Serbian football league over this weekend
- Considering some live poker event in near future with friends

Perhaps the most important thing to update is fact that blog has over 300k views!!! WOW. This is amazing and very motivating yet requires me to step up my game more each day, week, month and years to come.
I would like to take a chance to thank you ALL for following, reading, participating, providing great vibes, coming in with jokes, asking questions you seek answers on and finding value in my blog. This year in particular will be super interesting, in fact it already has been amazing (over 8k in winnings in less then 2 months, game plan fixed, higher limits shot taking, removing doubts about tons of things in my game plans etc) so by the end of it, my hope is that I will have something amazing to look back to as accomplishing and be really proud what I did in 365 days.

I will organize special Twitch session where I will grind with progressive shot taking for 1 hour not using any HUD 1 tabling and discussing all the spots, starting from 15$ going to 100$ limit.

Will let you know when this will happen in advance - so keep an eye out on the blog!

Thank you all once again for support and everything!

Oh boy, Pedja, you too? I was sick last week with a disgusting stomach flu. Against back pain you should do sports and strengthen your back muscles. If you have sage, make a tea out of sage leaves, honey is very good and anti-inflammatory. Besides, ginger tea strengthens your immune system, just take fresh ginger and put boiling water on it. Add honey and leave it for at least 10 minutes, even longer. This will help. And last but not least: Your body tells you that it needs a rest so listen to your body!

Hi Prim,

I am sorry to hear that you were sick. Hope you are feeling much better or better yet fully recovered. Advice you gave sounds very good and I will tomorrow grab these things from store and pharmacy to prevent this from spreading further.

My throat ache is problem the most now, my back is rested at about 85%+ and my stomach is not doing so well either.

It has to do with 3 key things I would say:
- Drinking on Friday a lot of Rakija after not drinking since Phuket's 1st night this much
- Eating tons of carbs and drinking soda in the meanwhile (after Friday)
- Mental game. Reaching my financial target incredibly fast, 2 months before I set it.

For alcohol its obvious. Hangover, after such high intake on Friday, Saturday is wasted , half Sunday as well. Lack of energy, body giving up (muscles soure etc). There is a reason I don't like drinking besides health and that is because it affects my productivity (fucks it up) in days to come.
Bad food and drinking soda adds up to the list. It messes up my stomach, I feel full and sleepy and its like it takes 20-25% of my energy overall from the day. This changes other way around when I eat good and steady.
Finally, mental state. I achieved something I haven't expected. From -1.4k on 2nd of February to + 6.5k or more by 16th of March. So that kind of winnings just made me feel proud and accomplished. What makes it even more mentally interesting and somewhat difficult is that I played and took shots at not only 30s but also 60s and 100s and saw only couple of opponents that really gave me harder time - in other words, put me in spots where even where I was strong I wanted to get stronger (to improve A game more). And now in my head I have couple of things going on regarding mental game:
- I know I am winner at 15s and feel I should be playing higher stakes soon to improve my hourly and keep becoming better player in the process
- I am at the point of playing on my own at the very early time in the year (plan was from middle May on) so that feels like I should take more time off and chill. That is not true of course because true hourly, EV that is will catch up always no matter what on large enough sample. On the other hand, most winnings that I made came from 60s and 100s in March + solid RB and hitting and winning 100x on 15s. So in that sense EV hourly won't be able to catch up for 60s and 100s until I move there and play full time.
- In my head, there is several areas that are important for future winnings and that is right now causing 10-15% doubt which is I feel affecting me to sit and play as I feel I am not 100% certain where my 1st future winnings will go. I have several options and all are equally important. 1) My life BR (future rents from 15th of May on + life expenses for the remaining of the year) 2) BR for my best friend (1.6k$ for him to have 300 buy ins for 7s) 3) PIO or SimplePostFlop - to keep improving with textures and increase my hourly + work more on my game plans 4) Money to pay off my dads car (less then 3k$) 5) Thailand savings for 2 months (6k$) etc

So due to those doubts in my head, last 2 days when I woke up early mornings, I didn't feel that drive and hunger as I always do. And like I said its due to these doubts. Where will future money go? I read every day document with goals that I have on my desktop and see those milestones there. I see that I am ahead of the pace. But things change in my head due to wanting to prioritize someday's studying vs money and on some days money vs studying. So that means that there is day where I say, play make money and save for BRs and Life BR, keep working in sessions with coach and it will be OK. Then there are days when I am like, invest right now extra money you have in PIO and do 1 texture DAILY on your desktop, go over each flop spot and hand type you are unsure and your EV in future games will increase significantly.

So right now, I am sitting at around 200 buy ins for 15s + over 500 euro of extra money that I can use for anything I really want. Besides this money, I took out 200 euro to have for living expenses for remaining of March (food and coffee with best friend) and then for some bills in April. So I can use that money for so many ways, like pay 2 more rents in advance or pay 1 rent and have 1 extra month of expenses, or buy PIO and send remaining to my friend to play 3$ full time already...

So that kind of doubts are making me think and to certain degree overthink it because I don't want to make a mistake or wrong step at this point.
I feel the biggest priorities should be in this year: BRs for both life and poker and then study tools (PIO) and then everything else.

I have to stop overthinking it all basically and just revert to my habit of playing 5 or more hours, study reviewed hands and work with my friend crusher in PIO on spots where I am unsure about.

Excitement of getting PIO is killing me inside. I really want to make those textures, do screen shots and go over each category of hand and create some tutorials of a kind for my best friend also, so that he can study it outside of our sessions and also learn why certain hand types are played with certain way.

I am basically procrastinating past 4 days (since Friday) due to power of choice. More choices one has, more difficult it becomes to choose. If you have only several choices, it becomes very easy to choose and go on.

I will just play until end of this month, see what the balance will be and then decide how to proceed. If I make couple k$, it will be enough for BRs and I can even invest in PIO. If I loose money or am BE, I will not invest in anything yet. If I will 1-2k I will just invest in my and my best friends BR and remaining keep for life expenses.

So that's what has been going on and whenever I have decisions like this, my body goes into different mode as well and becomes more vulnerable to virus. I noticed that in the past because I on purpose apply stress when making such decisions to make the choice ASAP and move on and as you know stress can cause body to react negatively and to get ill - which is what I think happened a bit in the past 4 days with my throat ache, back pain and bad choice of drinking Rakija a lot on Friday and eating bad food since Sunday.

Going to grind now remaining of the day and focus on just playing my best, testing my strategies and seeking most +EV plays while marking hands and spots that I am uncertain about for sessions with my friend.

Recently, I've settled on a simple tie-break rule for myself: study when I feel that I'm spewing at the tables; grind when I feel that I have no glaring leaks left anymore. Ironically, the grind helps me discover other leaks that I was previously unaware of, by creating a sufficient sample size for database or Nash calculator analysis.

In case you wish to know the scientific basis for this obvious intuitive rule that's been in use in the poker community for many years already, it's a common heuristic known in the reinforcement machine learning community as 'the WoLF method' which stands for 'Win, or Learn Fast'. In other words, it's assumed that, if you're winning (i.e. you have a large chip EV in the Spin & Go case), it's less probable that you have serious leaks relatively to the population of your current games, and thus your study-to-grind ratio should be smaller (more in favour of grind), though the amount of study should be nonzero (but in reinforcement learning, it's usually set to some really low value, such as 5-10% of the time).

That said, the WoLF heuristic doesn't account properly for the possibility of moving up. It's just my personal preference as I vastly prefer adding tables (at the same stake) to moving up to where they don't respect my raises :f_tongue:

Great post btw. It really makes sense and is probably eye opener for many people reading.
I fixed several key areas in my game plan which were C game of a sort (SB 3way and BB HU) but also improved my A game (BB 3 way, BB vs SB, SB vs BTN and vs BB as well as range vs range and bet sizings with run outs), so my cEV is certainly higher then this time last year, that is just true. Besides the fact that I am in green and know that I can print money on 15s, my schedule is not steady still for coaching sessions, studying, grinding, eating and other life things, and that just sucks hard because it stops me to be 100% productive.
Once I get to very realistic schedule, my 5 hours daily grinds will be very doable. Until then I will struggle and put in 100-120 hour per month instead of 150 hours which I aim for. On the grand scheme or big picture, this is great improvement vs last year where I played total 700-800 hours from March until end of the year. So 50% grind hours increase is very cool but when I set my grind goal I set 100% increase which will require me in some months later on in the year to get into 200 hours per month grind to truly eat sleep and shit at the tables 24/7

This is the best confidence booster that I can think of :f_thumbsup: You're not afraid of things going wrong on 30s-100s because you know that, even in the worst case, you'll still be able to make a living by playing 15s.

And that's actually why it's always recommended to start from the micros when you're switching to a new poker format - you need to be sure that you're beating at least one of its stakes confidently and with an hourly winrate high enough to afford a living. Then you can take shots whenever you feel skilled enough for them (providing that you put some small bankroll aside that you'll use for the micros in the worst case), with no fear of hunger.

When I search for the keyphrase 'comfort zone' on this forum, the majority of the recent posts that the search gives me are yours. You see, I don't buy into this 'always try to leave comfort zone' paradigm. Comfort and challenge are two equally important states that should alternate, not reject each other. Being too self-critical can be as harmful as not being self-critical at all. It's better to be 90% productive 100% of the time than to be 100% productive 85% of the time while ruminating about your imperfections 15% of the time (excluding the time when you're actually busy with fixing them). Give yourself some love and comfort once in a while.

All of the above has certainly cleared thing's up for me I didnt like to ask how you made that much with 0% ROI, do you switch rooms often then? putting the largest deposit possbile in means off the bonus's and etc?
