Here beginneth the rant: Just heard on the radio that, not only are the government going to take away mrsjb's child benefit because I'm a higher rate tax payer, they can't work this out for themselves, so that she has to tell them that she lives with a higher rate tax payer, or get fined. So the government have to be told by my wife that I am giving them lots of tax so that they can stop giving her some money. We have to tell them! Fuck, fuck, fuck you David fucking Cameron!!. Not knowing shit from shinola springs to mind! Here endeth the rant.

I also heard on the radio that the New Zealand parliament had to rush through some legislation so that Peter Jackson will agree to shoot 'The Hobbit' there. Jackson's threat was that otherwise he would go and shoot the film in Watford. Presumably Chenny and Waiboy and the other hairy-footed hobbits of New Zealand have never been to Watford. I can confidently say that the beautiful mountains, glaciers, volcanos and rugby players of Watford would probably not have been quite as photogenic as those in NZ, and my read is that Jackson was bluffing.

I also found out that there is now internet access on Mount Everest (and it's probably faster and more reliable than what I can can get in my village, but that's another story). Here's my idea. PS gets all the Team PS players and gets them to the top of Everest, preferably without oxygen, and if they wanted to herd TwiceT up there too that would be fine by me, and makes them play heads up against Conall on FT. Conall will be allowed oxygen. I think this would be an interesting experiment, and a good test of his recent progress.

Logically they should play on the Everest Poker platform...

I hate to side with the Nazi's.. er.. taxation authority, but in truth, the onus is always on the taxpayer to advise the tax authority on their tax status (at least in many jurisdictions - yours and mine included). Simple solution is to stop being so awesome and get yourself into a lower tax bracket. That'll show the bastards. :f_p:

Ooo...ooo... want.. to.. use.. numbered.. list... but.. won't... :f_frown:

The guts of the thing was Warner's had threatened to move the shooting of the film to a Central European location (and having worked in Elstree for over a year, yes I can see many similarities so can understand the confusion. Although, as an aside, I've never seen so many hot girls walk into a club in short space of time as I did one night on the razz in Watford. Possibly this was variance ofc). This was after an Australian Actors Union had directed a New Zealand Actors Union to blacklist the film and issue a stop work order over (at least as far as I'm concerned) relatively unimportant distinction between a contractor and an employee. Given the cost of filming these things, industrial stability was apparently an important contributing factor to filming in NZ in the first place.

Long story short, the Union were being bolshie (?) and Jackson was pissed off that the film industry he effectively created in NZ was being blackmailed by the actors, putting other jobs at risk. In a less than satisfactory, but likely relatively vital, move the NZ government is redifining actor's status as contractors v employees. I don't think it was all scare tactics on Warner's/Jackson's part and I do think it was over zealous unionists that really instigated the whole mess. And given NZ's remote location on planet Earth I think folks should be working out how to get more $US600 million film projects out here, rather than giving the money reasons to go to more accessible locations. Not at any cost, obviously, but not for IMO spurious reasons either.

Short story succinct: unions suck > Film Studio applies the nut cracker > Government slightly dodgy but not Iranian dodgy > NZ economy gets doubled in size for next few years > YAY!

And yes, I have hairy hobbit feet. Useful during the winter tbh. /rant.

Ha bloody ha ha! If you had access to my bank account, you would realize that it's a cry for help. I earn my money, and my family pisses it away like a drunk after 8 pints of lager. If anyone deserves child benefit, it's me. :f_cry:

Maybe he was on Everest and couldn't get down in time to play with oxygen?

i) Short stacking NL50
----------------------------
This is all the hands I played on Pokerstars NL50 FR. Enthusiasm -> horror -> despair -> resignation -> boredom. Sorry Gerv. Sigh! :f_cry:

ii) FT $6.50 turbos
-----------------------
Apart from the obvious downswing below, I'm pretty happy with my start on these.

Since I have PT3 not HEM, there's no red line, but you can plot all in EV by hand. Whilst this doesn't tell you anything about whether or not getting it in was a good idea, it does seem to me to be a reasonable measure of how well I ran once the chips were in the middle.

This is hands where I shoved first. In general (but not always) calls are tighter than shoves, so I wouldn't expect to be ahead on average when called. The below EV part of the graph does seem to coincide with the downswing.

And this is hands where I called an all in. In general (but not always) I would expect to be ahead when I call unless I'm very short. Maybe I'm not calling often enough? Below EV bit again corresponds with the downswing. I would have hoped the yellow line would at least be sloping upwards. Maybe this is a leak?

If anyone else has any thoughts on what one would expect these graphs to look like, I'd be interested to hear them.

iii) Other Games
--------------------
I'm a hopeless dabbler, so I've played a bit of rush for the Take2 bonus (see earlier for graph), a tiny bit of razz and stud hi, a handful of super turbos, some steps. I also tried a 27man turbo SnG and managed to win it (Soooo soft. May have to return to these!). Even a few HU super turbo SnGs to get FT Academy points. And played three rush 135 man SnGs. Again super soft, fast and good fun. Cashed just inside the bubble in one after being the chip leader. Tried to abuse a midstack who had AA. Disappointing. Won't bother with a graph.

iv) Alternatives to ICM
----------------------------

Made a lot of progress with this with muebarek, pzhon and nibbana. I still want to try a couple of things, but I think we've just about established that, for a three handed satellite bubble with starting positions randomized every hand, ICM Nash is hard to beat. Hope to look into the effect of position next month. I will also tidy up and comment my MATLAB code and post it in the thread for others to use/laugh at/improve/point out crass errors in.

BR = $900, although I'm still including the $65 I used to stake lennonac and the $32 I used to stake Basic Boris. We'll have to see what happens with those. This is pretty much a break even month. Better than losing money I suppose.

Goals for Next Month
---------------------------
I don't usually do this, but, what the hell.

[ ] No shortstacking!
[ ] In fact, no cash games at all!
[ ] Play at least 20 sets of 10 $6.50 turbos, and thereby get Bronze Iron Man.
[ ] More review, less spew! (copyright, nibbana)
[ ] Play turbo SnGs on FT only!
[ ] Tidy, comment and post my ICM modelling code.

Having written this, I realize that it's the review bit I struggle with. In fact, I'm not sure I really even know how to review these SnGs. I open up SnGWiz and get bored after about 15 seconds. I have the poker attention span of a two year old. I can work on a maths problem for years on end, but poker? I want to play, play, play! So sad. I'd like to share screens with someone whilst they're reviewing so that I can see how it's done. Anyone like to help me out. I'd be really grateful.

EDIT: Added a couple of things since last night.
