Just think how big your winrate would actually be without the rake! :f_ugly:

Hey Vonki, nice blog.

If you want my advice, don't play rush.

Actually, it would depend on the type of player you are, which I really don't know.

It seems to me that the players who really "crush" a limit are those who can consistently analyse the specific tendencies of others and manipulate them to an advantage.

It's not to say those who don't are incapable of playing a winning game, but generally they are the type who will accept a smaller edge over a larger sample size. This is precisely what rush facilitates, a large sample size.

Exploiting tendencies starts to become extremely difficult, when you don't have an opportunity to observe villain for any length of time. Granted you will eventually build up stats on Rush players, but for a start it will take much longer, and even if you were to have 20 hands or so on villain, you can never be certain that these are coincidentally not all BU or UTG hands.
In a standard ring game you already have enough information after even 20 hands to begin making some basic assumptions about the players since not only can you observe their play against other people at the table, but they will remain in the same positions (always in your SB for example).

It seems to me a good player will nearly always be able to achieve a higher winrate in standard ring games. It may of course be quite possible to achieve the same hourly playing rush with a lower winrate, which is why I say initially it depends on the type of player you are as to whether you should play rush or not. The style of your blog leads me to believe you are possibly in the first category, although I could be mistaken.

Personally, while I think the concept of rush poker is great, I feel blind at the rush poker tables. Even if it is just something simple like whether I should be 3betting a polarized range against a certain player....without having decent assumptions I can't be assured that certain plays are profitable in the long run.

I can relate to finding poker "boring". Even though you may not think it is that practical, I agree with the people that recommend taking a break. Even if it's just a few days off you will feel fresher at the tables. And I honestly think if you somehow manage to enjoy the game, your winrate will probably be a notch higher.

Anyway, nice blog, maybe I'll check back here.

I agree. I also want to add on to what you said to me earlier about that you may tilt off a lot of money if there is a lot of variance in the game.

Well in rush poker you get like 1k+ hands / hr and the swings are pretty nasty hourly simply just because that you play so many hands so fast. I feel that its much harder to keep cool on the rush tables because it's allways this snap, next hand, snap next hand everything goes so fast and its no longer poker imo.

I think longterm standard ring games > rush also due to the fact that i think you will learn more from exploiting tendencies as w34z3 nicely explained.

It's up to you whatever you choose to do, i just wanted to give me my thoughts and my experience on the matter, keep the blog running

As much as I aprechiate all of your thoughts and know you want to help me pick the path you think is best for me as a I pokerplayer, I have already taken all of these things in account.

The thing with me is that I need variety. If I dont get it I will eventually go mad. Which is exactly what happened to me after playing NL SH for a year being stuck on NL50 for most of the year for various reasons. Cashouts being part of it.

I am not saying I am going to play rush forever, in fact I know I wont. As long as I can find some joy and motivation in it though, I will stick to it. Playing rush for a while will widen my horizon, allow me to get the change I so desperately need but still maintain volyme and FTP's (for Iron man fx).

I am really just exploring rush as an option. I never liked rush myself either, but I do find I made hasted decisions about it because it didn't suit my current style/abilites.

I am aware that my game won't develope as much as it could playing SH, but honestly; lately I was slacking with learning new stuff in SH too so I was just stamping around on the same spot all the time. That aint the right way to get about it either.

How long I will keep playing rush depends on if I get involved in a coachingdeal or not, and if I during that coachingdeal reach what ambitions I have playing it. It may be for another week, 2 months or 2 years. Time will tell really...

Finally I just want to say that the pokerplayer in me and the real me are actually two quite different persons. What is best for me as a pokerplayer is not always what is best for me as a person, and for one to succeed the other one has to be happy too, which means I have to find a kind of balance between saticefying both of them. For the time being, my real self wasnt happy with what playing SH was giving me thus the pokerplayer had to compromise.

I truly believe that I will find my path, weather it be playing MTTs, normal SH tables or Rush. My own happiness > maximum value. Sad but true, if I aint happy then what's more money gonna do for me? :)

But, I aprechiate your opinions. I really do  Thanks guys :) :f_love:

@ OZSA: They freaking owe it to me! :f_biggrin: Delayed birthday present ;)

I have considered PLO but I dont think I can handle the swings yet ( my mindset isnt strong enough me thinks ) and I also think I'd need to master NL way better before getting myself involved in PLO... everytime I play it for fun I'm superexcited because I flop 3 pair until I realize I can't count them all and always find myself counting on my fingers if I have a straight or not

I mean I like PLO but... Im happy with my choice so far so just leave it please, I don't want to feel like I should have to defend my choice to anyone. I have chosen it and considered all other options already and when it comes down to it I know myself better then anyone else and am the only one who will know what the best choice for me is =)

You say you'll sweat me but I have no idea what you play? :f_biggrin:

Ok, just making friendly suggestions, I'm sure you know what's best

PLO8 is technically lower variance than NLHE as it's a split-pot game. But then again, it will also give you a splitting headache.

6max cash nlhe almost exclusively. The occasional MTT or HUsng.

Helow there and first of all Happy birthday.

I wish that this and every year your heart, wallet and bed may never be empty.
Same goes for your bankroll of course.

Now to the business.
My friend Emanuel told me that you are good player of NL SH games.
I am currently playing NL5 SH and am looking for someone to coach or sweat with me.
I believe Manu told me you are curently playing rush but before that you were crushing nl50, so I think I can learn a ton from you.
I know I cannot offer you much in terms of knowledge, but if you are interested we can make some sort of a deal, that would benefit both of us.

@ w34z31

Would you sweat with me on nl5 ?

Cheers

Did first coaching session with Vonki yesterday. It went pretty well although there wern't many thought provoking spots. She is obviously v.intelligent and eager to learn which is the main thing.

Hopefully as a coach I can challenge her as mentally as possible and move up the limits as she improve.

GeeeeL.

I would certainly sweat you for a couple of sessions and offer a little advice.

Can you add me on Skype (w34z3l) or send me a PS message so we don't hijack Vonki's blog?

Thanks _biggrin:

@ w34z31 : If I ever return to 6max I would def be up for it, but atm I have a feeling I'm gonna be swamped with learning and improving things for rush, so I would really prefer sweating with rushplayers atm. Sorry :f_biggrin:

@ Sinnology: Thank you :) But same goes for you really. I'm very flattered but I don't think any coachingdeal with a NL5 player could be as beneficial to me as playing my own stakes/improving my own game would be. I am most likely going to end up in a coachingdeal which means I'll need to dedicate 110% of my pokertime to that. Sorry. I'm sure though that you can find enough NL5/NL10 players around the forums that will sweat with you. It's really better then making a coachingdeal at those stakes because it's really hard for a coach to actually benefit from it. Sweatsessions are free and you'll still learn tons.

@ pleno1: looking forward to it ;) :f_love:

Damn boring weekend. Got 2 exams next week and I am way behind on schoolwork so I'm stuck with my books all weekend...

Between the studying I try to put in some hands of poker. I played 2 sessions yesterday, one on NL10 rush and one on NL25. I ended up feeling very lost in many spots and I still at times feel clueless.

Not good. So what I did was I reviewed most hands of yesterday and started marking hands where I can't say to myself that yes, this def looks like a good way to play the hand.

I ended up with 27 marked hands. At first I was kind of shocked that I feel clueless in so many spots. But on the other hand there are many situations that I never found myself in in SH. Guess I'd better start spamming the handevaluation forums huh =)

Some music whilst reading the rest? Okay!

I'll also most likely be joining a coachingdeal (Yes, rush FR). I've already had one session with pleno1, and I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised. I mean I've had private coachings before, but none like this one.

I do believe that with pleno1 behind my back I can go far... to the stars and beyond. ;) I've already regained alot of motivation to learn, to play and to review and improve. I think I can actually give pleno1 some credit for that, as he asked me where I wanted to be in year from now etc. It got me thinking, and you know what? I sure as hell don't wanna be stamping around in the microlimits anymore.

He made me realize that I do want to get far, I do want to be a pretty fucking awesome pokerplayer. Ofcourse he didnt have to remind me that to get there I also gotta work hard. And then harder.

So that's exactly what I'm gonna do! :)

Piece of cake :f_love:
