i went on the sickest downswing of my life, was losing like 5-10k everyday for an entire week. I got pretty obsessed with the idea of ending the month +50k and it completely fucked with my mind when I was dropping everyday. I told myself "ok I'm gonna make that money back now" and I got absolutely destroyed with that mindset.
It felt pretty reminiscent of my Oct 2011 downswing of -30k.
Now I'm currently in the recovery phase, taking it easy. Resubbed RIO for 1 month and started watching videos with a more active approach (pause at interesting hands, run CREV sims). I finished watching most of the new Sauce and Gogol's Nose vids and gained some fresh insights. Also spent some time analyzing 4 of my main opponents at NL1000 and I spotted interesting trends in some of their plays.
Some updates about what's going on
1. Went on -40k downswing in 1 week
2. Reinstalled dota to keep myself occupied doing other stuff
3. Worked hard on my game
4. Made some videos (We are probably going to collaborate on some new videos for Paul's own site)
5. Partial Recovery
6. Barry has agreed to put my book on the front page news so I'm looking forward to a boost in book sales
Current progress - 615k VPPs, should be on pace for SNE completion
On another note, the remote gambling bill has been passed in Singapore already. Bet365 is closing my account this month. I don't play there but it's a sign of things to come in the future. I'm currently looking at moving to a couple of places, most likely Macau since it's close to home and I can play live games.
I think a regular schedule of playing and study is absolutely important. I completely messed that up in 2014. Should probably aim for 2000+ hrs of play and study per year. Living alone has also been really great for my game, so I'm not too upset about being forced out of my country.
A quick insight into the life of Mr Otto
I think I learnt quite a lot hanging out with him. Even though he's a year younger than me, he is a step or two ahead in terms of "career progression" and seems to have his shit figured out. It's really important to hang out with Top Performers in order to gain the motivation and wisdom needed to improve on yourself. If you hang out with mediocre people all day, it will be really easy to get complacent and settle for less.
1. Finances - Well obv he has more than me, but not only that. He has a wide range of investments, from Bitcoin to some business ventures with his friends. I have 80% of my money in cash. I've been doing quite a bit of research about personal finance earlier this year but I still haven't really put anything into action yet.
2. Schedule - I play and analyze around 6-8 hours on average, everyday. He only plays on Saturdays and Fridays, and spends the rest of his time on his business and coaching.
3. Poker - It's been close to 1.5 years since I started receiving coaching from him. I think my skill level is pretty close to him now (from a practical standpoint), but his understanding on Game Theory is still much better.
There were some pretty interesting spots I analyzed on CREV and he offered some good advice on what hands to make indifferent, how both players should play to achieve Nash etc.
