Crush postflop in low stakes MTTs

Check out an interview and video from a new coach who wants to help you take down more pots after the flop in multi table tournaments.

Today we introduce another new coach to the English Poker School. Jordyvde is a micro and low stakes MTT coach from our Dutch community where he has a popular blog. 

His first video is about an area where many low stakes MTT players could do with a tune up - playing after the flop. 

Often MTTs are all about your preflop actions, which can make things tricky when you find yourself in flop, turn and river situations. 

Our coach came from a cash background before he started playing in MTTs and this has helped him play in tricky spots after the flop. Today he shares some of those lessons which should help you improve your MTT winrate.

Meet Jordyvde

Welcome to the English Poker School, how long have you been playing MTTs?

Jordyvde: I have been playing MTTs for about 9 months now, I'm not a professional yet but I am looking to go pro in the coming years.

What errors do you see at the low stakes MTTs?

Jordyvde: Not really respecting variance, when I played microstakes myself I was having trouble with that too. Also, I do think a lot of micro players have a bad mindset. For example, not studying hard enough and not putting in enough volume per month.

How profitable are MTTs compared to other formats?

Jordyvde: I don’t know a lot about Spins so I cannot really say how much money you can make at those games. I would say cash games are pretty much drying up, obviously they are still beatable but it does get harder and harder every day. I feel like recreational players want to play tournaments rather then cash because of the big prizes up top.

Your new video is about playing post flop in MTTs, do low stakes players have too much of a preflop mindset?

Jordyvde: I wouldn’t necessarily call it a preflop mindset, although I do think people on average are better preflop then postflop. I'm not saying you shouldn’t be working on your late game at all. In fact, late game is where all the money is won.

Does playing some cash help you play postflop in MTTs?

Jordyvde: Overall I would say that you always want to focus on one format in poker. However, if you do feel like you are having postflop troubles I don’t think one or two days a week playing in some cash games is bad. Just to get some postflop experience and try some things out. I came from a cash game background myself, and notice that I double up a lot of times early on in a tournament.

What errors do you see players make after the flop?

Jordyvde: Stacking off with TPTK, in some crazy spots. I see it way too often..

What can we look forward to in your future videos?

Jordyvde: Hopefully lots of final table reviews because I feel like shipping some tournaments!
