Last Sunday's $10,000 888poker Freeroll: "It was a lot of fun"

With $10,000 in the prize pool, the 869 players in last Sunday's depositors freeroll had a lot to fight for. The eventual winner was Ukrainian PokerStrategist oprof, who walked away with $2,200 - a sweet payday for a freeroll.

That's exactly what oprof did. He deposited $10 at 888poker and as a result he was awarded a seat in the freeroll - a juicy one at that. He also now has the chance to try out 888poker's new webcam tables.

869 played - 70 got paid

The freeroll he played in attracted only 869 players, creating a tournament of just the right size to play. 70 PokerStrategists eventually made the money and the top 30 got at least $70, quite a decent paycheck already for a tournament that was free to enter.

However, oprof made it a lot further. He quickly build a playable stack and then waited for good spots for stealing or re-stealing. Eventually, he made the heads-up where he defeated summerdime, a player from Russia.

In the final hand, SummerDime jammed his A8 all-in and oprof called with TT, fading any aces to take the title.

"Like it and stay or move on"

When we caught up with our winner after the freeroll, he stressed that he likes these freerolls because they don't come with any further obligations for the players: "I just deposited $10 which is a good deal in my opinion if you can play a $10,000 freeroll. After that you can still decide if you like the room and stay or take your money and move on."

In total he played for roughly five hours. "I would definitely play these again, even though the luck generator forgot about me for a while" he added with a smile. Same goes for SummerDime who came second for a $1,200 payday: "It was a lot of fun, I will certainly play again."

With $2,200 in hand he achieved an hourly rate of over $400: "I am really happy for my victory as this is the second time I one such a thing. Thank you very much and see you for the next $10,000 depositors freeroll."

Players who did not make it into the money still had the chance to finish the freeroll profitably. Every participant was entered for a chance to win one of three Apple iPods - and especially with only 869 players in the field, this was a great extra incentive.
