Leo258 is a Dutch and English SSS coach who has managed to attract attention to himself with his excellent coaching sessions and coaching reviews. We've managed to get a hold of him for an interview and are happy to present you yet another coaching profile!

PokerStrategy: Hello there! Please tell us a little about the person behind "Leo258"!
Leo258: Hey! Well, my name is Leo. I am 27 years old and come from a little town in The Netherlands. My girlfriend and I have been living here together for about six years now. I enjoy playing football, going out with friends and obviously I enjoy playing poker.
PokerStrategy: Ah the Netherlands! Yet, in your last coaching session I saw several people asking you if you were Hugh Grant. Is that a typical Dutch accent, or perhaps more importantly are you in fact Hugh Grant?
Leo258: Haha, no... it actually started in my coaching review - NL Basic Short Stack Strategy. People posting thought I had a bit of a London-ish accent. This might be the case, since my dad was raised in London and that is where I got my English from. So it certainly isn't typically Dutch... A Brit would surely spot the fat Dutch accent in it. We've also tried Spanish and German during coaching sessions. These sadly didn't work out.

PokerStrategy: Sounds like you guys have a lot of fun in the coaching sessions! While we are on the topic of multiple nationalities: What do you say about the recent Euro 2008? What was worse for you, England not taking part or the Dutch elimination in the quarterfinals?
Leo258: Definitely the Dutch elimination since I feel very Dutch... Yet it wasn't all that bad since it was clearly deserved. We didn't stand a chance at all against the Russians. We had a great group stage where we totally dominated and every team has it's bad days during a championship. Sadly we had ours in the knockout stages. Since Guus Hiddink is Dutch too, Russia was probably the best choice to lose against anyway.
PokerStrategy: Yeah, the Russians put up a great game against you! We should try to get back to the topic of Poker - how did you come across PokerStrategy?
Leo258: Well, during a certain rainy afternoon: I was playing on a table, trying to get some money. All of a sudden some guy sucked out on me and started talking about PokerStrategy and something called SSS...I am a very curious guy, so I wanted to know what this was all about, trying to find a program called SSS.
Obviously I couldn't find it at the downloads section, so I started looking in the forum. The members there were really friendly and helped me out right away. I stuck around and have been active here ever since.
PokerStrategy: So I guess in the long run, him sucking out on you was +EV? Or would you say that PokerStrategy has influenced your approach to poker ever since the moment that you met this guy?
Leo258: I guess you could say that! Well, firstly, it changed the very foundation of how I approach poker. BRM was something I had never heard of. Once I started playing as taught by PokerStrategy, it became one of the most important pillars upon which I based my game.
Secondly, PokerStrategy obviously got me into touch with the SSS, since then I've been playing most of the time.
It also gave me a strategy of how to play profitably. Apart from some lucky shots, I have not been playing profitably up to then. Discussing and using this strategy has immensely increased my winning rate.
PokerStrategy: Well I guess you've come a long way since then, considering that you now coach in two communities and even produce videos. What did you do / do you do in order to improve your game?
Leo258: Well, I record sessions and review them to spot any leaks. If I find any, I thoroughly read up on the subject. I also try to always visit Xarry2's amazing coaching sessions,and try to prepare questions during the week, as you might forget them during coaching session.
More recently I have also started re-reading all Coaching Reviews on SSS. This has given me a lot of material to both rethink and discuss with people. This is most vital, in my opinion.
Last but not least, I try to read up on SSS on the English, Dutch and German forums.
PokerStrategy: Do you play other types of the game apart from SSS?
Leo258: Yes, every week I play the Dutch version of the Battle of the Donkeys and another competition we have going in the Titan freerolls. Next to those MTT's, I've also started playing No Limit SH.
PokerStrategy: What do you think are the most importants issues for beginners when starting off with poker?
Leo258: Well, the biggest leak for most beginners is playing too many hands. That is because beginners don't yet understand why a strategy tells them to play in a certain way, so they start to undertake experiments. Some people also tend to get bored with playing tight. It is very important to understand why this leads to losses. Therefore it is needed to try to understand why a strategy tells you to do certain things. The best way of doing this is by watching coaching sessions, posting hands and discussing stuff on the forum. So basically, the best advice I can give you, is to keep learning and to always question a given strategy (but not when playing)!
