High stakes August ranking: theASHMAN103 up by over $2.4 million
While Tom "durrrr" Dwan was waging wars with Martonas and others, theASHMAN103 steadily recorded one successful session after another and the ending result for him in August was a whooping $2.4 million profit.
An unknown player Martonas has brought the high stakes NLHE tables back to life in August and most of the major sessions saw him on the battlefield, facing anyone without a trace of fear.
It wasn't until Tom "durrrr" Dwan found a way to defeat him that Martonas was stopped. Their heads-up clash was one of the most memorable in high stakes history but the glory in August goes to another man who recorded a huge profit.
A stunning performance by theASHMAN103
With a profit of an amazing $2.4 million, theASHMAN103 (pictured right) has rightfully taken the throne in August. It took him 11,459 hands spread across 102 sessions to achieve this profit which makes him one of the biggest winners in a single month for this year.
Cole South earned over $1.2 million in July which earned him the 2nd place on the winners' list and August was no different. After playing 11,836 hands in 134 sessions, South has earned $1.580 million and once again found himself right behind the month's biggest winner.
Brian Hastings has also been playing steadily and while he was ranked 5th in July, he has worked his way up to 3rd place in August. He played a modest 5,015 hands in 55 sessions but it was enough for a profit of $1.250 million.
In overall, the top 10 winners' list has several players who recorded a profit of over $1 million which just proves how active the tables were in August. Below you can find the top 10 winners of August:

Another red month for Hansen
Gus Hansen (pictured right) has been in trouble for most of this year but August was
especially painful to his bankroll. After playing 19,147 hands in 545
sessions, he found himself down by $2 million. With another month in
red behind him, Hansen will hopefully work his way up in the following
months to wrap up this year with a profit or at least minimum losses.
Not far behind Hansen on the losers' list is DIN_FRU. He was even more
active than the Great Dane, as he played 24,211 hands in 536 sessions
and when August came to an end, he was down by nearly $1.9 million.
The third place on the losers' list went to Patrik Antonius who lost
over $1.2 million in August. After playing 23,612 hands in 347
sessions, the biggest winner in overall for this year has lost a
sizeable chunk of his profit. He will certainly try not to repeat such
a huge deficit, as a month or two more like this could easily wipe out
his good performance from the past months in this year.
There are several more names worth noting on the losers' list for
August. Tom "durrrr" Dwan (pictured left) played 28,770 hands in 436 sessions and
despite landing a severe blow to Martonas' bankroll, his own bankroll
suffered a loss of nearly $1 million.
Martonas was and remains unknown but his performance in August has certainly become known world-wide. At one point he was up by millions, won
against the world's best players, and a few days later he was losing
all of that money to the same players. He played 30,536 hands across
185 sessions in August and instead of being the biggest winner of the
month, he ended it with a deficit of $700,000.
