The PokerStars European Poker Tour has arrived in Italy and won't be saying "arrivederci" until a winner is crowned on March 31. While Italy has always been a popular destination for the EPT, this event marks the first time that the tour has taken place in Campione.
This time last year...
This time last year the only Italian stop of the EPT was in San Remo. Always a popular destination, San Remo has played host to some of the largest fields in EPT history and has hosted the second-largest field of this EPT season so far with 837 players competing. That event was won by Andrey Pateychuk as part of his amazing run in 2011 that also included a WPT title. Former champions of EPT San Remo include Rupert Elder, Jason Mercier and Liv Boeree.
EPT Campione 2012
This is the first time that the EPT has hosted two stops in Italy in a single season. However, given the consistent popularity of EPT San Remo as well as the burgeoning poker market in Italy, don't be surprised to see a large field for this event.
Among those attending from the stable of PokerStars pros are local heroes Dario Minieri and Luca Pagano as well as former EPT San Remo champion Liv Boeree. Joining them in Campione this week are fellow PokerStars pros Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier, Arnaud Mattern, Eugene Katchalov and Lex Veldhuis among others.
