Anthony Rivera is Mix Champion
Anthony Rivera conquered the challenging final table of the $10,000 Mix Championship (Event 8) and secured a prize money of $483,680. For Rivera it was the first final table of a major in his career.
That it was the first big final table of his career doesn't say anything about Anthony Rivera's poker skill though. The 22-year old is a cash game pro and is counted there amongst the absolute top players. With the bracelet he now proved that he also knows how to handle tournament poker. Prior to this he only managed to cash twice in bigger tourneys.
In eight different poker variants he prevailed over 191 further participants. On the final table were also big names like Sam Farha, Eli Elezra, Matt Glantz and Tom 'durrrr'
Dwan.
In the heads-up he defeated James Mackey, who already secured a bracelet last year when he won the $5,000 No Limit Hold'em Event of the
WSOP 2007.
A rather short Heads-Up
In the last hand of the tourney, which was also the first one of the heads-up, James Mackey made a 87,000 bet. Anthony raised to 287,000 and Mackey pushed all-in. "What? You're all in? I call!" were the words of the later winner who showed and dominated Mackey, who flipped over
. In the end, the board showed
. The kicker kicked in and made Anthony Rivera the Mix Champion of the WSOP 2008.
Lots of action in the 2-7 Triple Draw
It seems the players love 2-7 Triple Draw. In this poker variant, the biggest pots were played and the participants obviously enjoyed gambling.
