Big drop in the COLOSSUS numbers
We recap the latest from the World Series of Poker including a 28% drop in runners for the COLOSSUS and epic live multi-tabling from Shaun Deeb.
COLOSSUS slightly less colossal (but still pretty colossal)
One of the big surprises so far this series has been the dramatic reduction in entries for the $565 COLOSSUS. It still attracted a jaw-dropping 13,070 entries this year but that is quite a reduction compared to the 22,374 of 2015, 21,613 of 2016 and 18,054.
Lots of pet theories have emerged to explain why there has been 28% reduction on last year (and 42% on the previous highest) including the other low buy-in events like the two 'Giants' this year, high rake and too fast a structure. However, this writer agrees with what several pundits have suggested that this is simply the 'bucket list' event for some people who just want to say they played at the WSOP, and once you have done that once, there is no reason to return the following year.
Either way the first prize is still staggering and Roberly Felicio has just took it down for a cool million dollars.

Deeb multi-tables day 3s
It's not uncommon for high stakes players to play two events in a day, running between the tables, but Shaun Deeb may have done something not seen before.
He made two Day 3s simultaneously this week, which is a real rarity. No bracelet for him but he did manage 16th in the $1,500 No Limit event for $11,553 and 3rd in the $1,500 No Limit 2-7 Draw Lowball for $36,330.
Not a bad day's work and also a good day if you are logging your steps with a FitBit.

Tonight the event to watch is the $10,000 Heads-Up Championship which is down to four and features Justin Bonomo looking to win his ninth title of the year (yes, you read that correctly).
