Premier League lineup gets tougher

Today we can report that the Party Poker Premier League can boast three new additions to April's mouth-watering event.

Tom "durrrr" Dwan, Daniel Junglemandan Cates and Phil "Unabomber" Laak have all confirmed their attendance for this year's Premier League V which kicks off in Vienna on April 4th.

The $125,000 buy-in event already has some of poker's elite in its midst, with Dwan, Cates and Laak joining the likes of Antonius, Tony G, Trickett and Selbst at the felt to make one of the most accomplished poker lineups ever assembled.

Bwin.party applies for Nevada license

Cardplayer today reveals that Bwin.party has formally applied for a Nevada internet gaming license, signalling their intent to re-establish dominance in a newly regulated US online poker market.

Bwin.party announced their allegiance with US casino giants Boyd Gaming and MGM Resorts back in October 2011 and became the latest addition to a list of 24 entities who have submitted applications for a Nevada online gaming license.

Daniel's weekly rant

The WPT Shooting Star over at Bay 101 saw the field thin down to just 20 players after a fast paced day 2.

Just 2 Shooting Stars remain in the hunt for WPT gold, with man-on-fire Jonathan Duhamel enjoying yet another productive session at the tables, locking up a chunky 751,000 stack in the process.

Besides the Canadian, JC Tran is the last remaining Shooting Star. However he has his work cut out being in possession of a moderate 145,000 stack.

You chip leader going into day 3 is Scott Baumstein who bagged up 1,301,000 chips at the end of play.

High stakes corner

Yesterday's action saw a return to the felt for Viktor "Isildur1" Blom, however it was a short and miserable session for the Swede, dropping as he did over $120,000 in less than 500 hands, according to HighStakesDB.

It was a bumper day for Blom's nemesis Ilari "Ilari FIN" Sahamies, who clocked a tidy $316,000 win at the PLO tables.

Superstar Showdown

While we're on the topic of Viktor Blom, PokerStars announced yesterday that the Team PokerStars Pro will be back under the spotlight this Sunday as he attempts to exact revenge on Isaac Haxton in the Superstar Showdown.

Haxton triumphed by a whisker over $40,000 in their last heads-up battle, and this time, PokerStars raised the stakes; the two high stakes specialists will play upto 2500 hands at $100/$200 NL Hold'em. Expect nothing less than fireworks.

Pokernews yesterday reported that "a U.K. private equity firm may be interested in acquiring Full Tilt Poker if the pending deal with Groupe Bernard Tapie falls through."
