High Stakes November Ranking: Ziigmund Takes the Throne

After netting over $6.5 million in November, Ziigmund has now taken the throne on the overall list of winners for 2009. Meanwhile, durrrr has gone through one of the most painful months in his career, losing nearly $6.4 million.

It has been a crazy year but none of the previous months can compare to what went on in November. High stakes tables were blazing with $500/$1,000 action, be it NLHE or PLO. Even the largest pot in online history was pushed well over $1 million, as Patrik Antonius took down a pot worth $1,356,947.

According to Highstakedb, the man most responsible for all the action going on was Isildur1. He crushed Tom "durrrr" Dwan in NLHE as well as dominated virtually any other pro who dared to oppose him, but once he switched to PLO, his dominance diminished with each passing day.

Nobody really knows who he is, though there are speculations that he is Viktor Blom. One thing is known however - he hails from Sweden. It may be a coincidence, but Isildur1 joined the nosebleed stakes not long after another unknown Swede Martonas left them.

Ziigmund up by $6.6 million overall

Unlike Martonas, Isildur1 seems to be going nowhere until he either goes broke or busts the entire Team Full Tilt Pro line-up along with other pros who play on Full Tilt Poker. Even though we already know about his downswing, he did end November up by $2.3 million.

This secured him 4th place on the overall list of winners for November, after having played 121,408 hands across 622 sessions. After being down by nearly $1 million in October and a successful run in November, it will be interesting to see how December will end for Isildur1.

The third place went to Brian Townsend (pictured top right) who is happily grinding his way towards the top of the list of biggest winners in 2010. A profit of nearly $2.9 million in November has certainly pushed him up by a few spots on that list. He played 15,325 hands in 314 sessions with most of his profit coming from a 1,000 hands session against Isildur1.

Phil Ivey earned almost $3.2 million which surprisingly wasn't enough to make him the biggest winner of the month. Most of this profit, roughly $2.7 million, came from Isildur1's pocket. Ivey played 10,821 hands in total spread across 174 sessions.

The first place went to the man that has landed a few devastating blows to Isildur1's bankroll in December - Ilari "Ziigmund" Sahamies (pictured left). Nevertheless, his winnings in November were just as painful for his opponents, as the Finnish pro ended the month up by over $3.5 million.

It took him 13,045 hands in 148 sessions to achieve such an amazing profit which has also secured him the first place on the list of overall winners for this year. He now leads the ranking up by $6.6 million, followed by Ivey who has earned $6.3 million and Patrik Antonius who is up by just below $5.8 million for 2010.

durrrr drops $6.3 million in one month

Losing over $5 million is never pleasant, but losing it to only one player at the game in which you are considered to be one of the best - that could be considered even worse. Unfortunately for durrrr (pictured right), that is exactly what he had to face at the end of November. We have seen him lose and win big, but never until now has he lost so much money in a single month.

After 51,579 hands in 416 sessions, durrrr found himself stuck by over $6.3 million. Most of those losses came from NLHE $500/$1,000 heads-up games against Isildur1. However, durrrr is already grinding his way back up and we can easily see him returning most of the lost money in December.

With such a devastating month behind him, durrrr has now also overtaken Gus Hansen's throne on the list of biggest losers in 2010, with a total deficit of $6.8 million. However, the Great Dane is not that far behind, being down by over $5.7 million himself.

Besides being right behind durrrr on the list of overall losers, Hansen (pictured left) is also in the 2nd place on the list of losers for November. He played 22,988 hands across 915 sessions and recorded a loss of more than $3.1 million.

Cole South took third place with his loss of close to $1.3 million. At the same time, Patrik Antonius was the surprise guest on this list. One of the most consistent players this year, up by over $10 million overall, ended November down by $900k after a few losing sessions. He lost a large portion of his profit which got him to more or less where he was overall for this year before Isildur1 stirred up the action.
