Even though the college student hasn't been a member of Team Everest for long, tobestar11 has competed in several live tournaments under the Everest Poker banner. The 26-year old from Nuremberg ousted the competition in the "Live the Dream" promotion and won a sponsoring deal worth $100,000.

He made the final table of the WPT Diamond event in Paris last month and finished strongly in 5th place. Reason enough for us to sit down for a chat with him.

AdminPokerStrategy.com: How does it feel to be a member of Team Everest?

Tobias Wagner: It's a great feeling. I just feel really proud to be part of a group with such great players like Fabrice Soulier and Steven van Zadelhoff.

AdminPokerStrategy.com: How did you start your poker career? How did you manage to move up?

Wagner: I started playing the micro limits on Everest Poker where I consistently developed my game. I noticed that I was becoming better and better and was winning a lot. So, step by step and in a pretty short space of time I moved up to the higher limits.

AdminPokerStrategy.com: What helped you most during the climb to the higher levels?

Wagner: It helped a lot to watch and play against the best regs on each level in order to improve my game.

AdminPokerStrategy.com: What was your biggest tournament win? How did it feel?

Wagner: My biggest tournament win was 5th place at WPT Paris 2011 with more than 50,000 Euro. Of course, it felt great, but more than that, it drew a lot of media attention to me as a player. The poker scene and other media in Germany have naturally been curious about my story since I won the Live the Dream Casting, but my success in Paris gave it one more boost.

AdminPokerStrategy.com: What's the 'craziest' purchase you have made with your poker winnings?

Wagner: I haven't bought really crazy stuff. I just spent money on gifts for my girlfriend and going to nice restaurants.

AdminPokerStrategy.com: How will you prepare for the Everest Poker ONE in Monte Carlo?

Wagner: I have played three big tournaments so far this year and I hit the money every time. I seem to be having a good run and my plan is to keep that going. First though I will play some other big live mtts.

AdminPokerStrategy.com: What's your advice to players who haven't played much live poker yet? How can they deal with being nervous and giving away tells?

Wagner: Just remember you play poker for fun and to relax. I know that there are many would-be experts at the tables out there who might try to make you nervous. Just ignore them, focus on yourself and on your own game.

And actually, many times beginners are very hard to read simply because of the fact that they are not very sure about themselves and about their own strategy.
