Is Bitcoin behind the growth of the Triton Series?
With record after record smashed in Jeju, is it simply because Bitcoin has reached all-time highs this month?

Congratulations to you if you HODL'd for the last two years. This month Bitcoin has soared to all-time highs of $73,835 after a very stagnant couple of years.
At the time of writing it stands at $68,140, but no doubt when you read this it will be something else entirely.
In completely unrelated news, the Triton series in Jeju has smashed multiple records. Most notably their biggest ever field of 305 entries, as well as the world record for a six-figure event with 216.
Is this a coincidence, or is Bitcoin driving these numbers?
Triton is the best thing to happen to tournament poker

Possibly not. I think the Triton Series is the best thing to happen to tournament poker. The quality of the streams are amazing, the destinations look luxurious and the quality of the play is elite.
More than anything, I think the thing driving the success of the Triton Series, is the Triton Series itself. Especially when you factor in a high concentration of rich recreational players (albeit amongst the literal best players in the world), there is no doubt why these events are growing in number.
So much so they may become a victim of their own success. As numbers grow, most of the seats will be filled with good players. They could become so big that the amateur players start to opt out of them, or force the organisers to do more of their Pro/Am formats.
A record breaking WSOP?
Having said all that, Bitcoin has to play a role in this. The exact demographic of players who crush Triton events (smart players in their early 30s who picked up the game while in college) are also precisely the sort of players who were early adopters of Bitcoin. If not them, then a lot of former poker players who became crypto traders will look at a series like Triton and want to buy action in the players.
All of this is good for the game and in particular the World Series of Poker. If Bitcoin can keep rising, or at least not have a massive correction, then we could see a lot of records broken in Vegas. It might be time to start a staking thread.

And if you didn't HODL, you can rest in the knowledge that your poker might benefit from those that did. That's how I avoid crying myself to sleep at night.
