Jason Mercier wins 6th WSOP bracelet
One of the most prolific players of the modern era has made a big comeback this week, as Jason Mercier won his 6th career bracelet.
Mercier had taken time off to raise his family and had not been a significant fixture on the scene for several years now.
His previous last bracelet win was in 2016.
But he came back in fine form to defeat one of the most stacked final tables you are ever likely to see in the $1,500 No Limit 2-7 Draw Lowball event for $151,276.
Brad Ruben, Jon Turner, Richard Ashby, and Erik Seidel all featured. Amazingly his heads-up opponent, recent double-EPT winner Mike Watson, was his heads-up opponent in 2016 when he won the $10,000 2-7 No Limit Draw Lowball Championship.
"I've been three-handed with him four separate times in major events and I've won all four. So he's gotten second twice and third twice. But in particular, we played heads up for the no-limit deuce bracelet in the $10K in 2016. So it was definitely a bit of déja vu."
It has been a remarkable WSOP that has seen Mercier become the latest relatively young player to win their sixth career bracelet. Shaun Deeb, Brian Rast, Jeremy Ausmus and now Mercier have all done that in 2023.
