Phil Hellmuth wins 16th WSOP bracelet

Love him. Hate him. You cannot ignore The Poker Brat during bracelet season.

He started last week under fire for his over the line antics at the Seven Card Stud Championship final table and ended the week by winning his 16th career bracelet. 

Last night he made his 4th final table of the WSOP and went all the way by winning the $1,500 No Limit 2-7 Lowball Draw bracelet for $84,851, defeating a field of 272 players.

Hellmuth with his 16 bracelets now leads the bracelet rankings by six bracelets (Phil Ivey, Johnny Chan and Doyle Brunson all have 10), the first of which he won in 1989. He has 156 cashes, 70 final tables and $15,294,312 in WSOP earnings alone. He now holds bracelets in No Limit Hold'em, Limit Hold'em, Pot Limit Hold'em, Razz and No Limit 2-7 Lowball Draw. 

On top of this he has another title to chase. Double bracelet winner Anthony Zinno leads Hellmuth by the narrowest of margins in the Player of the Year contest as a result of this victory. 

Many were very critical of Hellmuth last week including yours truly, which I stand by. He does get away with behaviour other players would not and the WSOP needs to deal with this. He does, however, bring something special to the World Series, a talent that is hard to quantify and it might just come down to him wanting it more than anyone else. Despite his antics, it's always fun to see him extend his remarkable record at the WSOP.
