PokerStars responds over rake increase
Head of PR addresses the recent changes in a rebuttal on the company's blog.
Michael Josem, Head of Public Relations at PokerStars, has responded to some of the negative feedback from players regarding the recent changes at the industry giant in a post on the PokerStars blog.
Within it, he points out that PokerStars still wants to cater for the needs of regular players and actually reduced rake in the past in an attempt to make the game more profitable, but that they believe everyone would benefit even more from the games being softer on a regular basis.
"We need to invest in new ways to improve the poker economy. While we understand that not all players are satisfied with the short-term impact of these changes, the reality is they have the potential to increase poker liquidity."
"If we can grow poker, everyone will benefit. Even our competitors will benefit, because in a rising tide, all ships rise."
He then goes on to highlight that both attracting new players and continually lobbying for regulation are costly endeavours, and that it is "perfectly reasonable" from a business perspective for PokerStars to fund those ventures by cutting other costs (VIP programmes, Battle of the Planets, higher rake etc).
