Ryan Hughes matches Ferguson's WSOP cash record
Chris Ferguson’s record lasts less than a day after Hughes now guarantees himself his 14th cash of the series so far.
Less than a day after Chris Ferguson broke the WSOP cash record, Ryan Hughes has equalled it. Two-time bracelet winner Hughes is currently 3rd in the $1,000 No Limit Hold'em after the second day’s play.
He is one of only three players from the 20 left in the game to be in charge of a million plus chips meaning he is now guaranteed his 14th cash of this year’s series.
Of those 13 previous cashes, the most notable were his sixth place finish in $10,000 No Limit Hold'em Heads-Up Championship, worth $54,986, and the $27,910 awarded for coming 7th in the $ 3,000 H.O.R.S.E. event.
Hughes, from San Francisco, will also now enjoy success in the Player of the Year race, even in the unlikely event he should be the first to drop out tomorrow. Elimination in 20th place will give him 692.86 POY points which would take him to 3rd place in the POY table. However, should he place 6th or higher, he will take the lead in the POY race.
36-year-old Hughes, who has close to $2m in live earnings, picked up his two WSOP bracelets back in 2007 and 2008.
Current POY leader John Racener has also managed 14 cashes in the WSOP this year, however two of those were in online bracelet events, unlike Ferguson and Hughes who cashed exclusively in live event like the previous record holders. So whether he has also matched the record is depdendent on how you view online vs live cashes.
