WCOOP will be earlier this year
A $100m World Championship of Online Poker will be a month earlier this year to avoid clashing with the WSOP.
WCOOP normally starts mid-September and often feels like the start of the new poker season. The World Series of Poker is usually the end of that season, then we have a summer holiday, then it's WCOOP.
This is not a normal poker year, however, and this year WCOOP will take place between August 22 to September 15. If it wasn't clear why, it is no doubt to avoid clashing with the WSOP.
Online bracelet events start at GGPoker in August and the live WSOP starts on September 30. The dates above really are the only way WCOOP could have happened without clashing with the two biggest rival festivals of the year. Normally the other operators wait for WCOOP to start before announcing their own festivals but this is a rare instance where PokerStars have reacted to another series before planning their own.
No schedule has been revealed yet but it will be the biggest series ever with $100m guaranteed (the previous highest being $99.9 million).
