William Hill refuse £330k payout after technical glitch

A Postman who thought he had won life-changing money was refused a jackpot due to a technical error.

A man who thought he had won £330,906.96 on a slots game has been told he won't be getting his prize.

Postman Stephen Harvey had £20 in his William Hill account, which he used to play online slot machines. Soon after he started playing, he appeared to have won the six-figure jackpot. 

William Hill owner Evoke said in a statement that they identified a technical glitch which resulted in incorrect sums being credited to player balances. They claim that Harvey never actually won the jackpot; the prize amount was credited to his account incorrectly.

Harvey, however, said he first won £47,000 in a jackpot, followed by £183,000, until his account was finally at £330,906.96. 

He told a BBC radio show that he had already started looking at properties to buy with his winnings when his withdrawal request was declined. 

He was also told by William Hill that he had to pay back an initial withdrawal of £200, which he had won prior to going on the amazing jackpot run. However, that was later waived as a gesture of goodwill. 

An Evoke spokesperson said: "We have been grateful for our customers' understanding on this matter and apologise for the inconvenience caused."
