Daniel Smyth

Daniel Smyth is a journalist, editor and all-round swell guy from Cambridge, England.

After starting a love affair with poker at university, Daniel soon left his girlfriend of many years to pursue a career as a poker writer. Using his English degree in conjunction with what he thought was a modicum of skill at the poker table (play money games were his forte at the time), Daniel sought out the advice of Barry Carter who gave him some sage words to dwell upon.

Those early exchanges gave Daniel a valuable contact, as well as the means to kick open the industry's door and thrust various articles into people's faces. Many free and commissioned pieces followed, including an interview with a young Patrik Antonius, before Daniel was eventually courted by WPT Poker Magazine.

A four year tenure with the publication, during which he assumed various roles including Strategy Editor, came to an end when Daniel decided to follow a path of variance and become a freelancer.

Having written for many of the industry's prominent sites over the last few years, Daniel now calls PokerStrategy.com home. Working primarily on the Daily Rewind but lending an eye or a few words to other sections of the site, he's now happy to be part of a thriving English community.
