Tricky Spots (1)

by y0d4

In the following quiz you will be presented ten hands from different stages of SNGs. Those hands were all discussed in the hand evaluation boards so the solution found there might differ from standard strategy.

We will only discuss situations marked with a "?", all other decisions are not of interest. They were made by Hero and are not to be discussed in this quiz.

Today's topics: Fold equity and estimating your opponent's range correctly for various lines.

Cheating (e.g. with SNG Wizard or another ICM calculator) will be punished by several months of running under $EV and is therefore not recommended.

Good luck now!

Question 1:

FullTilt $11+1 NL Hold'em (3 handed)

Blinds
100/200

Stacks
Hero (t6800)
SB (t2730)
BB (t3970)

Preflop: Hero is BU with 9sAh
Hero raises to t500, SB raises to t2730(allin), 1 fold, Hero…?

What is the minimum range SB will have to shove with to make a call better than a fold?

Question 2:

FullTilt $11+1 NL Hold'em (5 handed)

Blinds
80/160

Stacks
UTG (t2890)
MP (t3480)
BU (t1990)
SB (t1450) (regular, no history, looks solid so far)
Hero (t3970)

Preflop: Hero is BB with 7dAc
3 folds, SB raises to t1450(allin), Hero…?

Part 1: Should you call the regular's push on your first encounter?

Part 2: Is A7o in your Nash calling range, i.e. the optimum calling range?

Question 3:

FullTilt $11+1 NL Hold'em (5 handed)

Hero (t4840)

Preflop: Hero is BB with KcAs
UTG raises to t1440(allin), MP raises to t3350(allin), Hero…?

You raise preflop with KK in the early stage and get called only by the SB. The board is pretty wet, there are lots of flush draws and straight draws possible, even made flushes. Your continuation bet is called. What do you do on the turn?

Question 5:

FullTilt $11+1 NL Hold'em (2 handed)

Blinds
200/400

Stacks
SB (t8480) (pretty aggressive, limps rather marginal hands) - stats: 49/33/15 (2- and 3-handed)  Hero (t5020)

Preflop: Hero is BB with 3d5d
SB calls t200, Hero checks

Flop: (t800) 6d4sQd
Hero checks, SB bets t400, Hero raises to t1200, SB calls t800

Turn: (t3200) Kh
Hero...(Stack: t3420) ?

You flop a monster draw in the heads-up of a SNG. Your opponent puts out a small bet which you instantly raise. After your raise gets called, you face the turn decision.

Hero raises to t150, 4 folds, SB calls t120, 1 folds

Flop: (t360) 8s3sJd
SB bets 360, Hero... ?

A loose, so far fishy, player calls your preflop raise out of position and donks potsize on the flop. How do you react?

Blinds
80/160

Stacks
MP1 (t1420)
CO (t2850)
BU (t1570)
Hero (t5850)
BB (t1225) (no reads)

Preflop: Hero is SB with 8dJd
3 folds, Hero... ?

It is folded to you and you hold J8s with 7.5 BB effective stack in the small blind. Should you push or fold?

Question 8:

FullTilt $6+0.5 NL Hold'em (4 handed)

Blinds
200/400

Stacks
CO (t5120)
Hero (t1920)
SB (t1150) (understands basic ICM)
BB (t5310) (appeared to be loose)

Preflop: Hero is BU with Kc8c
1 folds, Hero... ?

You are on the bubble and have the second smallest stack. Is pushing better than folding here?

Hero (t2051)

Preflop: Hero is BB with TsAc
2 folds, BU raises to t1675(allin), 1 fold, Hero... ?

A regular pushes his button with just over 8 BB, the small blinds sends his hand to the muck and it is your turn now. Would you rate your hand strong enough to call or do you fold grudgingly?

Question 10:

FullTilt $11+1 NL Hold'em (5 handed)

Blinds
60/120

Stacks
UTG (t1500)
CO (t2630)
BU (t3480)
SB (t4990) (31/13, steal from SB(4): 75% on 49 hands )
Hero (t900)

Preflop: Hero is BB with QdJs
3 folds, SB raises to t240, Hero... ?

A, according to stats, very steal-happy player minraises from the small blind. Do you push your remaining 7.5 BB, fold and wait for a better situation or call because of the nice odds?
