Equity Bootcamp Quiz (2) - Playing Pocket Pairs against 3-bets ooP

by MyLady17

Equity-Bootcamp already showed you that you need at least 28-29% equity for a profitable check/call on the flop. In the theory part of that article you learned which boards help you and which are bad for your equity. You can now check your knowledge on that.

3-betting ranges:

  • 3-bet vs MP2: 77+, ATs+, KQs, AJo+
  • 3-bet vs MP3: 66+, A9s+, KQs, ATo+, KQo
  • 3-bet vs CO: 44+, A5s+, KTs+, QJs, A8o+, KJo+

We will not consider 3-bets from SB or BB because hero would be in position in that situation.

Good luck!

Question 1:

Preflop: Hero is CO with 5c5s
2 folds, Hero raises, BU 3-bets, 2 folds, Hero calls

Flop: (7.50 SB)
Ad2c2h

Villain 3-bets the range given above. What is your equity on this board?

Question 2:

Preflop: Hero is CO with 9c9s
2 folds, Hero raises, BU 3-bets, 2 folds, Hero calls

Flop: (7.50 SB) AhJd8s

Again you get confronted with a 3-bet from the BU. Your own pocket pair is stronger now but this time the board offers two cards in villain's playing zone. How do you continue on the flop?

Question 3:

Preflop: Hero is MP2 with 8d8h
Hero raises, MP3 3-bets, 4 folds, Hero calls

On which flops can you continue profitably?

1: QhJs5s

2: Qc9c7c

3: Ah4s6c

4: KsTs9c

Question 4:

Preflop: Hero is MP2 with X X
Hero raises, MP3 3-bets, 4 folds, Hero calls

Flop: (7.50 SB)
2h2dAs

What's the minimum pocket pair with at least 28-29% equity?

Question 5:

Preflop: Hero is MP3 with 5c5s
MP2 folds, Hero raises, CO 3-bets, 3 folds, Hero calls

Flop: (7.50 SB) Td9d8d

What is your equity against villain's range on this board?

Question 6:

Preflop: Hero is MP3 with JhJd
MP2 folds, Hero raises, CO 3-bets, 3 folds, Hero calls

Flop: (7.50 SB) AcKc9c

This time you wanted to disguise your hand strength for the sake of deception and therefore didn't cap. But now you have to play your hand on this very ugly board. What about your equity here?

Question 7:

Preflop: Hero is MP3 with JhJd
MP2 folds, Hero raises, CO 3-bets, 3 folds, Hero calls

Flop: (7.50 SB) AcKs9d

Compared to question 6 the board is rainbow this time. What is your plus in equity here?

Question 8:

Preflop: Hero is MP2 with 6c6s
Hero raises, MP3 3-bets, 4 folds, Hero calls

Flop: (7.50 SB) AcKc9c

Are the small flush draw and two outs for your set enough to call again profitably on the flop?

Question 9:

Preflop: Hero is MP2 with ThTs
Hero raises, 2 folds, BU 3-bets, 2 folds, Hero calls

Flop: (7.50 SB)
KdQd8d

Again you decided not to cap for deception. Your TT looked nice before the pre-flop but do you have to fold on this flop?

Question 10:

Preflop: Hero is MP2 with 7d7s
Hero raises, MP3 3-bets, 4 folds, Hero calls

Flop: (7.50 SB)
QhJh9s

Villains 3-bets your MP2 raise, so his range is pretty strong. With three overcards and lots of gutshot draws for villain do you still have enough equity for calling?
