How good is your ... #2

by firsttsunami

Welcome to another Fixed Limit edition of the "How good is your ..." quiz format. Similar to the last time, you have to deal with a couple of situations in which you decide whether to call, fold or raise. For each problem, your choice will determine the amount of points awarded to you, which will then be added up at the end. As a special touch, 4 out of the 9 questions will be harder today, and thus be rewarded with more points for correct answers.

There will be two hands with quite different circumstances. While you play against a thinking LAG in the usual way in hand one, you will be facing off against a thinking TAG in the second one. Additionally, the latter will require you to determine your equity or your opponents range instead of asking for your action. We hope to help you improve both your intuition for equity and your perception of ranges this way, as they are elemental to our course of action.

On a side note, you should try completing the quiz without auxilary tools (i.e. equilator), since the only one you will cheat is yourself. It would be no longer a challenge and you would defy the purpose of the quiz.

HAND 1

Villain: LAG (34/24/2.2/43)

Reads we collected about him:

  • has difficulty letting go of ace high on unscary boards
  • overplays the flop quite often, but reasonable on the big streets
  • 3-bets almost every ace in SB vs BB battle, if he's BB

Problem 1.1

2.00/4.00 Fixed-Limit Hold'em (6 handed)

Preflop: Hero is SB with K, J
4 folds, Hero raises, BB 3-bets, Hero calls.

Flop: (6.00 SB) J, 6, 3 (2 players)
Hero checks, BB bets. You?

Final Pot: 3.50 BB

You raised KJo in the small blind and get a 3-bet. You check to the villain, who places his continuation bet. How do you react?

Problem 1.2

2.00/4.00 Fixed-Limit Hold'em (6 handed)

Preflop: Hero is SB with K, J
4 folds, Hero raises, BB 3-bets, Hero calls.

Flop: (6.00 SB) J, 6, 3 (2 players)
Hero checks, BB bets, Hero raises, BB 3-bets. You?

Final Pot: 5.50 BB

Let's pretend you check/raised the flop and the opponent suddenly 3-bets in position. What's the best course of action in this spot?

Problem 1.3

2.00/4.00 Fixed-Limit Hold'em (6 handed)

Preflop: Hero is SB with K, J
4 folds, Hero raises, BB 3-bets, Hero calls.

Flop: (6.00 SB) J, 6, 3 (2 players)
Hero checks, BB bets, Hero calls.

Turn: (4.00 BB) Q
You?

Final Pot: 4.00 BB

In the end, you decided to only check/call the flop. What's your best course of action after this turn card?

Problem 1.4

Turn: (4.00 BB) 2

What if the turn brings a 2 instead of the Q. How would you act after this turn?

Problem 1.5

2.00/4.00 Fixed-Limit Hold'em (6 handed)

Preflop: Hero is SB with K, J
4 folds, Hero raises, BB 3-bets, Hero calls.

Flop: (6.00 SB) J, 6, 3 (2 players)
Hero checks, BB bets, Hero calls.

Turn: (4.00 BB) Q (2 players)
Hero checks, BB bets, Hero raises, BB calls.

River: (4.00 BB) A (2 players)
You?

So you decided to check/raise the turn. The river brings the unpleasant ace. What do you do?

Problem 2.1

CO range: 33+, A2s+, K7s+, Q8s+, J8s+, T9s, 98s, A7o+, K9o+, QTo+, JTo

Problem 2.2

Same situation, except that we're holding ace high.

2.00/4.00 Fixed-Limit Hold'em (6 handed)

In this hand, we challenge you to determine the pre-flop 3-betting range of your opponent.

Problem 2.4

CO = TAG
BU = coldcaller-fish

2.00/4.00 Fixed-Limit Hold'em (6 handed)

Preflop: Hero is BB with K, 9
