After the Flop - if you Raised Before the Flop

First Part: Hand Categories

In this part, you're supposed to estimate the strength of your hand in accordance with the board and your hole cards. You should already have learned about the criteria to do so.

Question 1:

Pre-flop: Hero is CO with A, K
UTG1 raises 4BB, Hero raises 12BB, UTG1 calls 8BB

Flop: Q, J, 2

a) Strong made hand
You have a high chance of winning against all possible hands your opponent could be holding or you're even favourite, so you have a strong made hand.

b) Strong drawing hand
You might often win, but you're just holding ace high. A flush draw with a gutshot is even a very strong draw.

c) Trash
You only have ace high here, so the hand is worthless or simply: trash.

Question 2:

Pre-flop: Hero is BU with 22
Hero raises 4BB, SB calls 4BB

Flop: 3, 5, K

a) Strong made hand
You often take the pot down with a continuation bet, so you can consider your hand to be a strong made hand.

b) Weak draw
There are two deuces in the deck who could improve your hand and a 4, 6 or A could give you an additional straight draw.

c) Trash
You don't have enough hands and your hand isn't worth much if you go to showdown either; it's worthless.

Question 3:

Pre-flop: Hero is UTG1 with A, A
Hero raises 4BB, UTG2 calls 4BB, UTG3 calls 4BB

Flop: 2, 2, K

Question 4:

Pre-flop: Hero is CO with QJ
Hero raises 4BB, BU calls 4BB

Flop: K, Q, 2

a) Trash
A hand which is weaker than top pair isn't worth anything and you don't have a lot of outs either.

b) Weak draw
You don't have a strong made hand, but you have 5 outs which help you to improve to two-pair or trips.

c) Strong made hand.
Other than an improbable king, there isn't much that could beat you. You are usually ahead and you thus have a strong made hand.

d) None of the above.

Second Part: The Flop

We will now present you with various game situations on the flop where you will have to choose your line of action.

Question 5:

Stacks: 100BB

Pre-flop: Hero is CO with A, K
UTG1 raises 4BB, Hero raises 12BB, UTG1 calls 8BB

Flop: Q, J, 2
UTG1 checks, Hero bets 20 BB, UTG1 raises All-In, Hero...

a) Call
Taking into account what's already in the pot, your equity is too big to give up here.

b) Fold
You only have ace high and you're always behind on this flop. You don't win often enough to make a call profitable in this spot.

Question 6:

Stacks: 100BB

Pre-flop: Hero is CO with A, K
UTG1 calls 1BB, Hero raises 5BB, UTG1 calls 4BB

Flop: Q, 9, 2
UTG1 checks, Hero bets 9BB, UTG1 raises All-In, Hero...

a) Call
Even though the pot is a lot smaller and you have invested a lot less, your equity is still enough for a call.

b) Fold
The pot is too small, you need a lot more equity here. Your draw is weaker than before, too, while your opponents hand range is usually stronger, rendering your overcards mostly useless.

Question 7:

Stacks: 100BB

Pre-flop: Hero is UTG1 with A, A
Hero raises 4BB, UTG2 calls 4BB, UTG3 calls 4BB

Flop: 2, 2, K
Hero bets 9 BB, UTG2 raises 18BB, UTG3 folds, Hero…

a) Call flop, bet turn.

b) Call flop, check turn.

c) Raise to ~55BB.

d) All-In.

e) Fold.

Question 8:

Stacks: 100BB

Pre-flop: Hero is CO with 22
Hero raises 4BB, SB calls 4BB

Flop: 2, 7, K
SB checks, Hero bets 6BB, SB raises 16BB, Hero…

a) Call with the intention to slow-play.

b) Small raise.

c) All-In.

d) Fold.

Third Part: The Turn

(effective stack is always 100BB)

Question 9:

Pre-flop: Hero is BU with QJ
Hero raises 4BB, SB calls 4BB, BB calls 4BB

Flop: K, T, 2
SB checks, BB checks, Hero bets 9BB, SB calls 9BB, BB folds

Turn: 8
SB bets 25BB, Hero…

a) Fold
Your draw isn't strong enough in order to call the close to pot-size bet, especially since your completed draw won't necessarily be the best hand on the river.

b) Call
You will almost always get the SB's entire stack on the river in case of a hit, so you can easily call taking into account these implied odds.

c) All-in
You could just call, but it's more profitable to raise on your own here. In order to profitably play this draw, you have to get the opponent to fold from time to time, which is impossible in case you just call.

Question 10:

Pre-flop: Hero is MP2 with AQ
Hero raises 4BB, SB calls 4BB

Flop: A, 2, 6
SB checks, Hero bets 6BB, SB calls 6BB

Turn: 2
SB checks, Hero…

a) Bet ~15BB.
