WSOP 2014: news, schedule, qualifiers

The World Series of Poker is the biggest tournament series in the world. It takes place at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino between May 27 and July 14.

The WSOP 2014 $10,000 Main Event is guaranteeing $10 million to the winner this year, and on July 14 the final table will form and go on a four month break until November, where the 'November Nine' will battle it out in front of the ESPN cameras and a studio audience of their friends and family.

Last year Ryan Riess overcame 6,351 other players to be crowned the WSOP Main Event champion and become $8,361,570 richer. This year is also the return of The Big One for One Drop, a $1 million buy-in tournament which in 2012 saw Antonio Esfandiari win $18,346,673.

This year's World Series of Poker is set to be the biggest one ever, with 65 bracelet events, $10 million guaranteed to the champion, the return of The Big One for One Drop and a number of innovative new events.

Meet the 2014 November Nine

2014 WSOP November Nine

Jorryt van Hoof - 38,375,000 - The Netherlands:

With a lone WSOP cash to his name back in 2008, van Hoof will certainly be feeling the pressure when he returns with the chip lead. So far the Dutchman has already eclipsed his $358,580 career earnings by reaching the final table and with almost 4 million chips than his closest rival it's likely he'll be a contender when play resumes.

Felix Stephensen - 32,775,000 - Norway:

Born in 1990 and good friends with Norwegian poker pro, Ola 'no_Ola' Amundsgard, Stephensen now calls London home. Playing online as 'FallAtyourFeet', the young pro is mainly a cash game player and scored his first live tournament cash in 2013 with a 92nd place finish in the EPT Barcelona Main Event.

Mark Newhouse - 26,000,000 - USA:

Last year's ninth place finisher and now among one of the few people to make back-to-back final tables, Newhouse will certainly be one of the favourites when the finale rolls around. Indeed, having already dealt with the spotlight in 2013 it's likely he'll be the most relaxed November Niner at this point.

Andoni Larrabe - 22,550,000 - Spain:

Almost out of the Main Event in the final stages of Day 7, Spain's Larrabe will more than double his lifetime earnings when he returns in November. Despite a short MTT career dating back to 2011, the young pro cashed three times at the WSOP in 2013, including a 46th place finish ($14,333) in Event #57.

Dan Sindelar - 21,200,000 - USA:

One of the four US players at this year's Main Event final table, 30-year-old Sindelar moved to Las Vegas after graduating from college to become a poker pro. Since then he's been grinding the circuit and has a best cash of $105,312 to his name.

William Pappaconstantinou - 17,500,000 - USA:

A relative unknown before making it to this year's Main Event final table, Pappaconstantinou has only amassed $16,379 in his career so far and will likely be one of the underdogs when play resumes.

William Tonking - 15,050,000 - USA:

Tonking hit a 5 million chip downswing before the close of Day 7 and will start November's final table as the lowest ranked American. However, with four WSOP cashes to his credit, including a 77th place finish in Event #58 this year, he could be a dark horse when the action resumes.

Martin Jacobson - 14,900,000 - Sweden:

Tipped by BarryCarter in his recent "Best European Without a Bracelet" piece, Jacobson is undoubtedly one of the most experienced pros in the finale. A string of EPT, WPT and WSOP final tables have earned the Swede almost $5 million in prize money but this could be his first major title.

Bruno Politano - 12,125,000 - Brazil:

The lone South American at the table, Politano will be the bookies favourite to exit in ninth place when play resumes, but for now he can revel in the fact his boosted his $110,054 career earnings by more than $700,000.
