Limping? Completing? Squeezing? Raising hands not in the SHC? This article deals with situations not covered in the basic articles and when to deviate from standard play while using the short stack strategy.  These kind of plays are obviously not meant to be used on the lower limits.

SSS: Advanced Pre-flop Play

Quote from the articles:

"A squeeze, or squeeze play, is a bluff
made in the first betting round. After one player raises and at least
one other player calls, a heavy re-raise is made - a squeeze.

The thought behind this move is that the open raiser will find himself
"squeezed" between you and the cold callers not knowing how they will
react. They, in turn, rarely have a hand strong enough to call with.
You attack the dead money in the pot and, when it works according to plan, force all your opponents to fold."

In this article you will learn:

  • What is equity?
  • How to react to raises in front of you
  • When can you limp?

SSS: The Isolation Raise

The isolation raise is a standard move in the repertoire of any big stack strategy player.  It aims at playing a heads-up pot against an assumably weak open limper, preferably in position. Especially against opponents who will fold a lot of hands against a continuation bet, the move is very profitable.  Since it also incorporates playing weaker hands than you would normally raise with, there are certain conditions you should check before using this move. This article covers the basics.

SSS: The Isolation Raise

Quote from the articles:

"The purpose of an isolation raise is to single out a weak player who
open limps. You want all other players to fold to your raise. Note: you
can make isolation raises with weaker hands than you would normally raise with when playing by chart.
