Which Day 1 is the softest?
The Friday, the Saturday or the turbo on the Sunday? Dara O'Kearney's answer may surprise you.
I mostly keep Barry Carter around out of pity, I'm not sure he would manage by himself in the big wide world. He does, however, ask the occasional interesting question.
This one was such a question, earlier this week on Twitter.
A live tournament has Day 1A on Friday, Day 1B on Saturday and a turbo Day 1C on Sunday morning which ends just as Day 2 starts.
Which Day 1 is usually the softest? Feel free to reply with your reasoning .

What Day 1 is softer? The Friday, the Saturday or the 'turbo' on Sunday morning before the start of Day 2. The turbo, by definition, is a last-chance saloon flight that runs straight into Day 2 and has a clock that is twice as fast.
The majority of people polled suggested that Day 1B on the Saturday is the softest flight and the least people chose Turbo Day 1C on the Sunday. I think the majority of people were wrong.
Don't discount Turbo Day 1C

The logic is sound for picking Day 1B. It's on a Saturday which is usually a day off for the majority of recreational players. The Friday, however, is not. Therefore one would expect a higher concentration of professionals on Day 1A, because they are not constrained by work, and a higher concentration of amateurs on Day 1B.
I agree that Day 1B is much better than Day 1A for this reason, but here is my case for Turbo Day 1C.
A lot of people assume this flight will be full of professionals who can afford three bullets, but it is much more likely to be full of weak players who dusted off the previous two bullets and didn't make Day 2 because of their lack of ability.
More significantly, the Turbo flight attracts impatient gamblers who struggle in slower structures. Turbo flights are often full of players who are keen to get the money in as early as possible.
Finally, if you are on the fence about the sort of players these flights attract, I submit the following evidence:
