Despite being temporarily blocked in Nevada and New Jersey, PokerStars hasn't given up on its mission to re-enter the US market. Having been most recently knocked back by New Jersey, the poker site is now looking towards New York State as its online gateway.

As is typical with most political situations in the US, the process has started with a group of lobbyists trying to push the company's profile in the state.

Although concrete details of the move are somewhat lacking, a number of media outlets in New York have suggested that representatives for the Rational Group (PokerStars' parent company) have already had private meetings with Governor Andrew Cuomo.

Taking such a route seems to be the right step for PokerStars as Cuomo was one of the most active advocates of land-based casino in New York. Moreover, his legal team, Cozen O'Connor, appear positive when it comes to online poker after stating that now is "a good time for an open architecture".

A cure for losing

Gambling drugs

Scientists in Japan may have found a way to cure gambling addiction according to a recent report.

After carrying out experiments on 19 gamblers at the Kyoto University Graduate School of Medicine, researchers found that people with low levels of norepinephrine were less sensitive to losing money.

The main conclusion from the study is that we could be genetically predisposed to being "loss averse" or "loss insensitive"; the latter would potentially lead to a gambling addiction.

Using this data researchers are hoping to find a way to treat problem gamblers by developing a drug that will make them react in a more normal way when it comes to losing.
