Good coaching today ![]()
Not too many hands but a nice A high call here ♦

Preflop: Hero is SB with A♠, K♣
3 folds, BU raises, Hero 3-bets, BB folds, BU caps, Hero calls.
Flop: (9.00 SB) 2♠, 8♠, 3♠ (2 players)
Hero bets, BU raises, Hero calls.
This is an interesting raise in position which to me screams draw of some sort, I've noticed that this guy is playing a kind of LAGtard game so far.
Thinking logically how he could have hit this flop maybe an 8/pp or a flush draw is about the only way, anyways I can't fold cause of my overcards+ nut flush draw. I don't want to 3-bet as might make some A high flush draw of some sort fold so I decide to let him bet into me.
Turn: (6.50 BB) 8♦ (2 players)
Hero checks, BU bets, Hero calls.
Still can't fold cause of my outs.
River: (8.50 BB) Q♣ (2 players)
Hero checks, BU bets, Hero calls.
This isn't a great card to call on the river as this kinda hits his range, but I think he has a busted draw often enough to make a call here.

Flop: (8.40 SB) 7♣, 8♦, T♠ (4 players)
BB bets, MP1 calls, Hero raises, BU calls, BB calls, MP1 calls.
For sure we're betting/raise/3-betting/capping if we get the opportunity to protect multiway against draws/worse hands improving.
Turn: (8.20 BB) 4♠ (4 players)
BB checks, MP1 checks, Hero bets, BU raises, BB calls, MP1 folds, Hero calls.
This is kinda interesting, I think the players at this limit tend to either underplay their strong hands or overplay their weak hands that don't hold up multiway, I went for the conservative option here and just called the raise instead of 3-betting but it was close.
River: (14.20 BB) 5♥ (3 players)
BB checks, Hero checks, BU bets, BB folds, Hero calls.
Final Pot: 16.20 BB
Pretty much a blank so I went into calldown mode after the turn raise.
My coachings always end up awesome, bckdoorflush ended up playing guitar + singing afterwards, though kinda sad I had to leave soon after
Also thanks for the compliments uni ^_^

As promised, here's my 1K1-Post:
That coaching was awesome, not only because of the guitar player ![]()
When i started at PS, i read all the bronze articles and felt very good about my poker skills. I knew that there was a ciaching, but for the first weeks, i didn't use it because i though, i was pretty good.
But when i read the feedback postings of other FL-players, i recognized, that there must have been something wrong. They all made huge winnings and i was about BE after some weeks.
So, i started attending coachings. And that was an eye-opener to me. Now i saw, how to put the theory into actions on the tables! I also saw the different styles of the coaches which is still interesting to me.
I can will give all the beginners this tip: Use the coachings!
And to you terror: You're doing a very good job! You always answer the questions very competent and you also give small talk eh singing some time..
Very nice coaching - go on!
Thank you very much uni05mz it's my pleasure to provide you some quality beginner coachings
and it's an honour that you dedicated your once-in-a-lifetime 1K1 posting to me!

I think here either we have to fold the flop outright against a raise or calldown. If you know this guy pretty accurately as a normal passive fish from this limit then I can certainly find a fold here, however in todays coaching I came up against many maniacal fish of which he could quite easily be (i'm playing without stats).
Therefore against an unknown you can calldown in this situation, as played he checked behind the river with A8o which is really interesting, and I promptly noted him as a bad player.

Hey guys again another great coaching with record breaking numbers
I think it peaked at around 38 people with an average of mid 30s
This is good and it seemed like people learned a lot from the coaching, we had many hands to talk about which is fortunate.
I'm gonna talk about a hand that I misplayed to a degree.

0.25/0.50 Fixed-Limit Hold'em (10 handed)
Hand recorder used for this poker hand: Texas Grabem 1.9 by www.pokerstrategy.com.
Preflop: Hero is MP1 with 9♣, 7♣. CO posts a blind of $0.25.
2 folds, UTG+2 calls, Hero calls, MP2 folds, MP3 calls, CO checks, BU folds, SB calls, BB checks.
We talked about limping suited 1 gappers earlier in the coaching and I think we can pretty easily call here after 2 limpers as people will often limp behind us and even if there's a raise we're getting at least 1:3.5 which is the required odds according to the charts.
Flop: (6.00 SB) T♣, 5♣, J♣ (6 players)
SB checks, BB bets, UTG+2 folds, Hero calls, 2 folds, SB calls.
I should have treated this hand like it was a set/2pair, but I made a common fish mistake, I didn't think about how vulnerable my hand was. Often if a 4th club arrives on the turn or river we are beat and our hand is effectively like top-set that is invulnerable to straights. The play here is to bet/raise as often as possible on the flop to maximise protection as freecards are deadly here.
Turn: (4.50 BB) T♥ (3 players)
SB checks, BB bets, Hero raises, SB folds, BB 3-bets, Hero caps, BB calls.
It's not a terrible card but now I spur into action raising/capping the turn, which could easily be trips and hopefully not a fullhouse maybe it's even a top pair from earlier. Maybe a cap is overplayed vs these opponents but a better flopped flush is just a horrible cooler =(
River: (12.50 BB) Q♦ (2 players)
BB bets, Hero calls.
I decide I'm not ahead 2/3rds of the time against these players after they donk a turn cap, perhaps weak, though maybe a nonpaired board would tip it in favour of a raise.
Final Pot: 14.50 BB
Of course he shows A2 of clubs, for the flopped nut flush, a nice card would have been 8 of clubs for us ![]()
Anyways, if I was holding the nut flush then perhaps a flop call is possible in position but such a vulnerable hand needs protection on a dangerous board for our strong made hand.
Go forth and multiply! (your bankrolls)

Hey TB. Just wanted to say that I've been to about 5 or 6 of your coachings now and they are great. I've always got thoughtful and insightful answers to a wide variety of questions I've had. Also it's great to have people like uni there that also assist in helping us beginners. There are always some great discussions about difficult situations and different lines to be played. I recommend these coachings to anyone looking to improve their game and you will see me there in the future. Cheers
Thanks MP87, those kind of comments are very much appreciated
I'm sure my sessions are far from perfect as well so don't hesitate to criticise something I've said or done, that way we all improve from analysis of the situation!
See you all tomorrow!

Okay! Hey there guys it was another good coaching today, however somewhat carddead and the below hand is the only thing to show for it.
However there was some discussion about position and such.
I joined a 7 player table and sat down out of position of a TAG who I'd noted some weeks earlier, then sat up and was planning to sit in position of him so I'd have the positional advantage over him. Some people were saying it's better I have position on the fishes than on the TAG, however I disagree. Out of position play vs a fish is hardly ever marginal because they usually play straightforward and I'd rather not be at a disadvantage against the TAG than have a slightly smaller edge on the already HUGE edge any thinking player has against the fish.
Also it was said that with TAGs to act behind you they would respect your raises and fold making it easier to isolate fishes. While this is true it's still EV- for the fish to make the call and you in fact gain value from them calling with trash when you isolation raise and although it increases variance you still gain value in the long run. That said OOP postflop play is trickier and I'd rather be turnraised by a fish and easily fold 2nd pair than by a TAG and be forced into a hard decision.
In the actual situation it was kinda irrelevant because there was a free seat on either side of him and I just happened to choose the worse one.

SB checks, UTG+2 bets, MP1 calls, Hero raises, SB folds, UTG+2 3-bets, MP1 calls, Hero caps, UTG+2 calls, MP1 calls.
We can raise here and cap for value because the pot is 3-way according to "Raising Draws on the Flop for Value" article. Also because we are last to act we may get a free turn and check behind unimproved which equals awesome value for us and even if bet into on the turn we can still call for our outs and fold river unimproved to the flush.
Turn: (8.50 BB) J♥ (3 players)
UTG+2 bets, MP1 calls, Hero calls.
I'm assuming this is a blank and still intend to fold the river with no flush.
River: (11.50 BB) 4♥ (3 players)
UTG+2 bets, MP1 calls, Hero folds.
Blank card right? Fold river of course!!
Final Pot: 13.50 BB
UTG+2 shows 44 for a full house fours full of Kings!
MP1 hit a jack on the turn (yeah nice flop play eh?)
lol? Yeah I want to be playing someone who 3-bets the flop and donks after a flop cap with underpair ♦ He was pushing his 5% equity on the turn against 2 players who didn't fold the flop!
Nice coaching once again, after coaching dota game on sunday?

Hey guys and girls, another great coaching today partly due to the antics of a maniac at our table. This time we have THREE!!! hands that's right, my coaching review just got more awesome.
The following hands are a great example of how to adapt our play and definition of "made hand" against a maniac. The hands are in chronological (time) order as I played against him, thanks for whoever tipped me off that he was raising every other hand!
Hand 1:
Known players: (for a description of vp$ip, pfr, ats, folded bb, af, wts, wsd or hands click here)

Hand recorder used for this poker hand: Texas Grabem 1.9 by www.pokerstrategy.com.
Preflop: Hero is MP2 with 6♣, 6♠
3 folds, Hero raises, MP3 3-bets, 4 folds, Hero calls.
Flop: (7.40 SB) 4♣, J♠, 2♥ (2 players)
Hero checks, MP3 bets, Hero calls.
Turn: (4.70 BB) Q♣ (2 players)
Hero checks, MP3 bets, Hero calls.
River: (6.70 BB) 9♣ (2 players)
Hero checks, MP3 checks.
Final Pot: 6.70 BB
At this stage someone said he was raising every other hand and possibly tilting. I raise from MP2 with 66, and am 3-bet by the maniac. At this stage I'm not 100% sure of his maniacness so instead of capping for value I just call. Flop is alright, the turn is kinda ugly though, but with no K or A I'm not really afraid at this stage and just opt for a calldown.
He shows 63 for 6 high! Pretty loose huh?
Hand 2

3 folds, MP2 calls, 2 folds, Hero raises, SB 3-bets, BB folds, MP2 calls, Hero caps, SB calls, MP2 calls.
Flop: (13.00 SB) Q♣, 9♣, 8♦ (3 players)
SB bets, MP2 calls, Hero raises, SB 3-bets, MP2 calls, Hero calls.
Turn: (11.00 BB) 3♦ (3 players)
SB bets, MP2 calls, Hero calls.
River: (14.00 BB) 7♣ (3 players)
SB bets, MP2 raises, Hero folds, SB calls.
Final Pot: 18.00 BB
Results follow (highlight to see):
SB shows [ Kd, Kh ] a pair of Kings
MP2 shows [ 6s, 4h ] high card Queen
SB wins $8.55 USD with a pair of Kings.
I try to isolate the maniac (SB) and get 3-bet by him, which is an easy cap for us (we can almost ignore MP2 here as he rarely has a better hand). I raise my 2nd pair on the flop to try and charge MP2 for draws and such as he's playing passively so far. I decide for a calldown as I'm not too comfortable getting a 3-bet 3 way pot on the turn with 2nd pair. My plan is to call the river for 1 bet or fold for 2. MP2 comes alive on a flush completing card making it an easy fold.

River: (17.20 BB) 5♣ (2 players)
Hero bets, UTG+1 calls.
Final Pot: 19.20 BB
Results follow (highlight to see):
Hero shows [ Qh, Qc ] two pairs, Queens and Jacks
UTG+1 shows [ 6c, 9d ] two pairs, Jacks and Sixes
Hero wins $9.15 USD with two pairs, Queens and Jacks.
Ok so every once in a while the maniac picks up KK, so I get into this great position, (nearly) heads up with the maniac and overpair. My plan is to bet-3bet flop and if capped then donk/3-bet turn. I had to think for a while (5 seconds) about 3 betting this paired board and took a bit longer thinking about whether to donk the river or not. I think donk/call maybe 3-bet depending on his level of maniacness. Anyways I missed out on no value here and won a multiway-sized pot, I wish there were lots of these players at higher limits ![]()
Overall there was much fun to be had watching this guy donk away all of his money and hope to see you guys on wednesday, similar time, same place ![]()

Hiya d00dz, today was a pretty dull coaching, there were only a few people who showed up and we were carddead =( In hindsight we prolly should have done some kind of public private coaching with a willing contestant and give them voice to spice things up a little
Oh well next time I guess.
I had to scrape the bottom of the barrel to find a hand and here it is!
0.25/0.50 Fixed-Limit Hold'em (10 handed)
Hand recorder used for this poker hand: Texas Grabem 1.9 by www.pokerstrategy.com.
Preflop: Hero is BU with 9♠, 9♦
2 folds, UTG+2 raises, MP1 calls, MP2 folds, MP3 calls, CO calls, Hero calls, 2 folds.
99 isn't so good multiway with so many players in the pot here so we opt for a simple call, TT+ warrants a 3-bet depending on where the raise comes from.
Flop: (11.40 SB) 2♦, 4♣, 8♥ (5 players)
UTG+2 bets, MP1 calls, MP3 calls, CO calls, Hero raises, UTG+2 3-bets, 2 folds, CO calls, Hero caps, UTG+2 calls, CO calls.
This is an excellent spot to charge anyone drawing to overcards for example, We're in position and the preflop raiser is out of position, so we "trap" all the loose-passives in between and raise. Now it's debatable whether we can cap here or not after being 3-bet. I think with the 3rd player in the pot we'll be getting enough value from the cap in the times we're ahead of UTG+2 (we're always ahead of CO), though it's one of those "maybe it's better to respect their 3-bet at this limit" situations I run into every coaching. Your opinions on this play are very welcome and appreciated ^^
Turn: (12.70 BB) 6♦ (3 players)
UTG+2 bets, CO calls, Hero calls.
Raising his donk here is illogical as he's showing tremendous strength donking after my cap and we don't want to give him the opportunity to 3-bet when we can just call down and hope that he's overplaying overcards/top pair or something weird if he's a maniac.
River: (15.70 BB) 3♥ (3 players)
UTG+2 bets, CO calls, Hero calls.
No scare cards have fallen and running straight draws are unlikely with CO just calling so a call here is a must.
Final Pot: 18.70 BB
And also FYI I'm not here for my next 2 scheduled coachings on sunday & wednesday but will be back on the friday to cover cornholios beginner coaching and then will continue as normal + his beginner coachings till he gets back in october from his trip ♦ So you'll be seeing FOUR coachings a week for a couple of weeks!!
Good luck and have fun guys ![]()
TerrorBlade
Hey guys here is the review for my covering of cornholio's beginner coaching yesterday!
We got lots of hands to play and a certain user kept asking difficult questions of me which is good, because it makes everyone think about different alternatives etc.
1/2 Fixed-Limit Hold'em (5 handed)
Hand recorder used for this poker hand: Texas Grabem 1.9 by www.pokerstrategy.com.
Preflop: Hero is BB with A♠, 6♦
2 folds, BU raises, SB folds, Hero calls.
Flop: (4.50 SB) 8♣, 4♥, A♥ (2 players)
Hero checks, BU checks.
Turn: (2.25 BB) 6♠ (2 players)
Hero bets, BU calls.
River: (4.25 BB) 2♦ (2 players)
Hero bets, BU raises, Hero 3-bets, BU caps, Hero calls.
Final Pot: 12.25 BB
Our standard move on the flop is to check/raise in a raised pot OOP. BU checks behind on this drawheavy flop making almost certain he has a hand with no prospects at all.
We improve to 2nd two pair on the turn which is nice and will 3-bet a raise for sure. The river is a blank, save for some weird gutshot type hand and I believe there are enough worse hands that will call our 3-bet and maybe even cap in the case of a spastic 2 pair type hand which is quite popular with some fish. We are capped unfortunately and have run into a set of 8s, which is interestingly played on such a flop....
See you all on sunday
14/09/08
My usual sunday coaching went along without a hitch, and by hitch I mean single interesting hand, and by without a single interesting hand I mean pretty much small talk the whole time about porn, paxis, and (blackmember) parties.

Hero bets, MP2 raises, Hero 3-bets, MP2 caps, Hero calls.
River: (11.70 BB) 7♦ (2 players)
Hero checks, MP2 checks.
Final Pot: 11.70 BB
Just calling the raise on the turn is too weak in my opinion, anyone who just hit the Ace except some passives will most likely raise here, and we still beat many hands but after his cap we're calling down here.
See you all tomorrow!
15/09/08
Hey guys another covering of cornholios coaching has come and gone, there weren't a great many hands of note and titan's hand history SUCKS cause you can't just copy paste into texas grab'em on the fly which is really helpful on party!
Anyways here's one!
We open from the button and get 3-bet from SB. On this flop without a spade I'd instacheck/fold as our equity is pretty destroyed by the A/Q or pretty much any combo of A/K/Q. As it stands hands that we beat are a K/lower PP save for our flush draw, but we can easily call the flop in this case as our flush draw is going to be good quite often. After our flush draw arrives we're basically calling down to beat a non-spade pair/2p/set type hand or if he had a PP with a spade under 8 or Ax with a spade we beat it as well.
Shoutout to all mah boyz in da coachin' (and girl) you know who you are ![]()

P.S. wtf roxy how did you get platinum o_O [ ] following brm?

Hello again, we have a reasonably interesting hand here that I played at a shorthand table I opened in todays coaching...
0.50/1 Fixed-Limit Hold'em (6 handed)
Hand recorder used for this poker hand: Texas Grabem 1.9 by www.pokerstrategy.com.
Preflop: Hero is MP2 with 8♣, 8♠
Hero raises, MP3 3-bets, 4 folds, Hero calls.
We make a standard raise from MP2 and get 3-bet by MP3, I have no stats on him so assume pokerstrategy raising standards.
Flop: (7.50 SB) 9♦, 3♣, T♠ (2 players)
Hero checks, MP3 bets, Hero calls.
This is a pretty decent flop for us, the only possibilities for hands that we're beaten by are ATs or an over pair, we have 48% equity according to equilator. My plan is to call down with good turn and river cards as he will often at least 2 barrel his overcards and will probably 3-bet with an over pair if we raise.
Turn: (4.75 BB) 9♣ (2 players)
Hero checks, MP3 bets, Hero calls.
Nice turn card, actually improves our equity because he only has one more card to draw out on us with overcards!
River: (6.75 BB) A♣ (2 players)
Hero checks, MP3 checks.
Really bad card for us, the aces all improve (a LOT of his range) and our plan is a strict check/fold, equilator gives us 5% equity on this river. Note the only hand we beat is KQs (of diamonds/hearts or spades)
Final Pot: 6.75 BB
In this case the Ace was a good card, because it made him check behind with QQ =)! sweet....
See you all on friday!

Yo yo yo! Hope you guys enjoyed the coaching today as much as I did ^^ I loved to hear about the goings on at the PS offices in Gibraltar, man that made me want to fly out and join you, thanks a lot RobbieV the dutch community manager for checking out my coaching ♦
Basically Titan hand history is REALLY REALLY ANNOYING and I hate the having to print screen the hands + kreatiefs hand converter isn't working for me =(
Hand 1:
4 players fold, SB limps, Hero raises with Q9s, SB folds.
Limpers in the small blind.
RAISE 'EM!!!
I'm not going to post another hand this time, but I'm gonna talk about small things that can add up to a HUGE hit to your winrate.
Firstly, in the numero uno hand in this coaching I timed out with a set in a 10BB pot and which I was DEFINITELY ahead of my villain, so for this ~400 hand session in my coaching I started at a base value of more than -2.5/100 and had to work my way up from there. If you make a mistake like this every couple of hours it's gonna make you into a LOSING player!!! I am notorious for coaching timeouts, and a few more happened during the coaching, sometimes costing me 3-4 BB sometimes nothing, but every little bit counts.
Your concentration level is exactly proportional to your winrate (if you are a winning player) and I think the reason for my past "downswings" could have been in serious part due to these small losses added up over a large timescale. I always watch tv shows or surf the forums while I play poker, and I'm gonna make it a point to try and stop this because it could be costing you upwards of 1BB/100 (very very significant for FL players). So don't discount the value of concentration - it's not only tilt that loses a normally level-headed player money.
Play well, and may the force be with you.
