I've always had this thought that if someone was to say 'quit 'x' today, or your a addict' when I was a professional gamer, and was on FPS for a solid amount of time aday..
Unless you are hurting yourself or others, than addiction isnt actually a bad thing imo. Its just like passion, you wouldnt tell someone to stop working, or to stop looking after paintings etc.. If that was there passion.
I believe I like poker, and its become a passion for me, and why would i give something up that has given so much to me in such a short time. I could if I had to.. 'quit' poker for a serious reason. But unless that comes about.. I am staying put.
May i ask why you thought about quitting? Did you lose? haha

The whole argument about:
Them-"Could you just quit right now."
Me- "Yes but I don't want to. I enjoy it and it isn't harming anyone."
Them- "Then you're addicted."
I don't understand this. Everyone enjoys something and just because they continue doing it doesn't make it an addiction. Addiction is just negative connotation for the word passion.
To answer the question, yes I could just quit poker tomorrow; but I don't plan on it!

yeah probably but why would I want to? It's cheap food and it makes me happy
I had a similar conversation when I told my gf about poker. She was shocked to hear I had a couple hundred $$ on a "gambling site."
She immediately advised me to withdraw the whole amount, she was under the impression that I'm a addict and I was going to start stealing from people to fund my addiction.
I gave the same response as below, as long as its not hurting anyone I can't see it's a problem. I see it as a hobby :). (softened it slightly when she realised that the money was winnings, not what I had deposited).
So my answer is yes I could quit poker, if I had reason to believe it was a negative influence on my real life. But I won't be quitting any time soon.
Well i guess once you start playing poker on a daily basis, I don't think if it would be possible to stop it immediately, ( But maybe to some people ). So i guess my answer to that is a NO

I work a job that doesn't require much thought process, therefore I have tremendous amounts of time for creative thinking or asking myself some absurd questions like this one. Even if I did lose, I definitely wouldn't whine about it

I find it quite relaxing to come back from work and start grinding, I also love my Casino Trips too much to stop playing Live Poker.
I have so much on my plate these days, I find it hard to get a good session going. The way it is right now, I wouldn't blink twice if I didn't play poker for a year, or forever.
Hmmm depends on how I do this year.
I took like a 3 years hiatus and kind of forgot about poker having done ok for myself but not being hugely consistent.
Then I started again - i really don't know why. I think i watched an episode of a tournament on late night TV then saw some videos of poker on Youtube in my old account and things went from there.
My girlfriend hates the fact I play - I had a gambling habit a few years ago, but have kicked that.
People don't realise poker can be different if you are a good player.
It's the sort of thing you should never leave for long otherwise you lose your edge.
I couldn't quit right now - it engages me too much and I love the mental challenge.
I actully was not playing couple of months (comupter dead for 1 month, job search other month), and after I am back to poker, I think what happened - I have no motivation as I had earlier. But probably it is because I am playing low limit NL10 and my bankroll is healthy for NL20, in which I have no succes for long time. Its like - what the 10 euros will change? this is because it does not feel that bankroll grows that fast relatively like it looker growing fast when buyin to bankroll ratio was smaller, you get the point I guess.
There is some thoughts about quiting, because sometimes it feels that it takes so much time to get good, which is hard to find when you are employed, or I have to refuse other things in my life.
But I don't want to quit, so I am just improving slowly and playing not much hands. I would easily quit if I would see that there is not money to be won and only best of the best can win, like tom durrr or other top pros. But as long as you don't need to be top pro and can make good money, I guess I cannot quit. Also of course its fun to take free money from 80/60 fish and wonder how can people behave with their money this way
Sure, if the incentives were strong enough. Right now, the incentives are stronger to stick with it

I decided to take 14 days off due to work and bad run. 7 days in and although I'd have no 'urge' to play right now, I am constantly thinking about poker, reading poker articles,watching poker videos.
Now, I'm a smoker and am definatly addicted to that! No way I could go 7 days without a puff (especially if I was seeing articles about how to smoke all over the place).
So no, I don't think I'm addicted to poker anymore than someone who goes out every Sunday morning to play football.
