The sad thing about quads in Stud Hi/Lo is that you cannot make a low if you have quads. Not that you needed it

I have been wondering about that just the other day. The rules say that the bottom hand must beat the middle hand and the middle hand must beat the top hand, but I have also read that a Royal Flush in the middle would be worth 50 points. This implies that it is possible to place a Royal Flush in the middle if you have a second one at the bottom, even though the bottom hand wouldn't technically beat the middle hand then, it would only tie.

So far, I have never been in a situation where I had absolutely identical hands at middle and bottom. Hopefully, I will be able to test it once with a cheaper hand than two Royal Flushes, because if it turns out that this "once in a blue moon" hand would foul, it would be a massive waste.

Anyway, the theoretical best hand would be two Royal Flushes and AAA on top, which, of course, is not possible because you would need to use two of the aces for the Royals - same for all of the other broadway cards. But assuming you have a hypothetical fifth ace in the deck or you're playing with joker cards (I'm not aware such a version of OFC), two Royal Flushes and AAA would be worth 97 points.

The actual best possible hand, assuming that two Royal Flushes won't foul, would be two Royals and 999, which would be worth 92 points instead. Otherwise, a Royal Flush at the bottom and a straight flush in the middle with AAA on top would be 77 points.

In addition to all of that, you would also get 3 points for scooping in the almost certain event that you win all three hands against your opponent (which is not guaranteed, as your opponent could possibly tie with another Royal Flush, already denying the scoop).

Keep in mind that if you are playing three-handed, each of your two opponents would need to pay for these point amounts. Ideally, they would both foul or make any other royalty-free hand, so they would have nothing to offset those points in any way. With OFC often being a high stakes game, a pretty cash amount could be riding on each of these points, so you can see how one hand like this could pay for a fun night, to say the least.
