What were you thinking there? Did you have some reads on villain.

Shoving turn is a sure way to kill yourself in the long run. Lol.

Hey tommy,

Yes, I think I got some read on him that time, but now I am not sure haha, I couldnt remember the table dynamics now. I usually do not make bold bluffs unless I have some decent fold equity.

Villain's BU open is usually 3BB with strong hands like JJ+, AT+. Though he might also open 2.5 with KK+, but I got a blocker so I discounted it. But most of the time this is a cheap steal from this guy I think.

I cbet flop a bit smaller than my usual 75%-pot to see if he flopped a monster. Because, if he does, he will likely 3bet or shove since the board is draw heavy and AQ+ is pretty much in my range and I may improve to the nut straight. I block a 7, so the only hands that I am worried about when the Q hits turn is that he may have improved to 2 pairs with hands like QJ-QT, or an 89 that improved to a straight. However, his range also consist of bunch of floats here like straight and flush draws, weak Jx, Tx.

I figure he could not call with less than two pairs here. My only worry is his draws so I decided to shove. And besides my play here represents AK, TT+.

Of course I am not always making this crazy play... _biggrin:

Well to correct my post. I'd call Jx readless because you're repping only draws imo. No one generally would shove turn with AK or a set because you'd wanna get called draws and pair hands. And also they wouldn't shove TP because they'd expect to only get called by a better hand.

Also btw. His range is all over that board

If we have Jx and we put villain on a draw, we are mostly flipping here. If we choose to risk the rest of our stack in this kind of board with Jx, we would rather be the aggressor than the caller since somehow we have fold equity.

Also, I often overbet shove the turn on draw heavy board with 2 pairs, sets, straights to keep me balanced, since I sometimes do this with air if I am confident that I could make villain fold the best hand.

In this hand, the reason that I shove turn is that I only have about $7.7 left and the pot is already $4.55. If I bet say $3.5 and villain calls, the pot will be about $11.55. This will leave me only about $4.2 betting to a very big pot by the river. I always try to avoid this awkward situation to protect my bluff range on that kind of board. The worst scenario is forcing a fish into calling the river (when your bluffing) because they feel pot committed.

Yes but we do not have villain on Jx here. His range smacks that board in the face and you have 0% equity when he calls (not this time tho lol but against average villain) which means you'll need villain to fold super often to make the bluff +ev which he wont.

Also how is Jx flipping against a draw from turn to river? OESD+FD is like 40% dog and FD is like 20%. Also I don't mind flipping for dead money

As I said. If I knew you were overbet shoving the nuts in these spots too, I wouldn't call. But why would you overbetshove the nuts? You'll fold out draws and other hands that you would get value from with a smaller bet, unless villain is a station

No, in fact I really put villain on Jx, Tx, or FD on the flop, but I did not expect that he calls with bare Ax FD here. On my original post I mentioned that villain's BU open is usually 3BB with strong pairs and broadways. I thought he was stealing cheaply here. This may be unnecessary, but I think it will help to mention that I only play two tables in 10NL. I almost have all of my 10 opponents figured out by note taking and paying attention.

Also how is Jx flipping against a draw from turn to river? OESD+FD is like 40% dog and FD is like 20%. Also I don't mind flipping for dead money

In theory, you have a very valid point. However, there is no more OESD on the turn as all mid-nut straight already connected. If I don't have the nuts or a monster by the turn, the least I have is a big pair+FD ATs,AJs,AQs,AK. Also, there is no dead money if you are the caller here. On the other hand, I could expect a lot of dead money that villain will surrender when I shove. Dead money is only "dead money" if you are sure the other player is weak and will surrender and give up his initial investment. Since I shove, I showed a lot of strength or decent equity so you can never be sure that the pot is dead. Justifying a call by dead money in situations that there is almost none is pretty risky.

As I said. If I knew you were overbet shoving the nuts in these spots too, I wouldn't call. But why would you overbetshove the nuts? You'll fold out draws and other hands that you would get value from with a smaller bet, unless villain is a station

Sometimes shoving the nuts is the optimum. Depends on table dynamics and history.

I understand that you can hand read well and might call down shoves like this with Jx by pure logical thinking and odd calculations. However, playing history and instincts plays a large part on our decision that may sometimes change our mind.

^ why are you not considering sets, 2 pairs and 89 to be in his range?

I'm not sure if I had the right term when I said dead money. What I meant was simply that even if we're flipping theres allready money in the pot from earlier streets so flipping is ev 0 while folding makes us lose the $ we allready put in the pot.

And again I'll have to mention. I simply said that I'd call Jx readless. I'm not saying anything bad about your poker abillities or anything. And if you have reads on villain that makes you believe that shipping is most +ev then go ahead and ship it obv

actually flipping is +EV with dead money, folding is ev 0.
see what is going on here?

on that hand i'm not calling Jx because readless and i have better hands to call, some JT/JQ/AK (might 4bet, but i don't think it's an auto4bet preflop at these stakes, specially if hero is 3betting too many blocker hands like here)
in any case i don't think shipping is +EV, he can have enough twopairs and might station KJ/AJ/Jx and Qx diamond sometimes because pretty hands but w/e

Okay, so you say he wouldn't have two pair + or even top pair + if he didn't raise flop. I agree with you. What hands do you think will call flop that are in his call 3bet range and not raise? I believe any KQ, KT, T9, Q9, Adxd, Kd8d+, Qd8d+, Jd8d+. I don't think he has many other FDs in his range (it's a 3bet pot afterall). Look at how many of the hands I mentioned got there on the turn? Almost all OESD hit the queen + still have an OESD, so they won't fold to your shove. AdQd+ got there. Kdxd now have a monster draw at least + possible overcard so won't fold(you're probably flipping against Kxdx or slightly ahead so not the worst). Almost all the Qdxd and Jdxd I mentioned have at least a gutshot and flush draw now plus a pair, no way he would fold those. Really, the only hands you are targeting by shoving are Adxd hands which only have a FD and gutshot and non hearts KT,T9. He ended up having the Adxd so you're lucky. And I'm pretty sure most villains will fold these hands anyway to a smaller bet so do you really need to shove?

I think this play is only +EV if you've seen villain consistently call with worse (gutshots, 22-66, worse 7x) But even so, I think betting half pot to 2/3 pot and shoving river will get more value out of him.
