I'm wondering if this was an illegal move. Earlier this week in a live tourney, I was playing a hand which flop had just been revealed. Both blinds check and I picked three 1k chips and one 500 and before dropping them, went back, left one of the 1k chips and bet 2,500. I didn't announce my bet verbally. I wasn't called on it, but I still have the feeling that it is an illegal move. I know the ruling for string betting, that I can't go back and pick more chips, but still unsure if the single motion forward is still applicable here.
My gut feeling is that it is illegal and that, after reconsidering my bet size in mid-motion, I should have announced the bet and retrieve the extra chip, as verbal statements are binding. What do you think?
