I'm not a lawyer, but as far as I know it is:
- completely legal if the poker site has a license (i.e. PartyPoker)
- afaik you do not have to pay taxes on your winnings.
I knnow in the US, you're technically supposed to pay taxes on anything you win, but they really can't do much about your winnings, since they do not talk directly with Party Poker for information. I'd assume it's the same way in Britain

That�s not correct. Currently there are different opions about the legality in Germany. It is hard to interpret "where" exactly your actions take place, when you gamble on the internet.
Especially the high stakes player in Germany try to fly under the radar with several cash out methods.

Unfortunately PP does NOT have a license in Germany!
Korn is absolutely correct. In the UK, the taxes are paid by the company holding the license (i.e. PartyPoker)
You don't pay taxes on any winnings in any gambling in the UK. It doesn't count as income. All tax for gambling is paid for by the gambling company and not by the user.

thank you for your help, It is really hard for me here (Germany) to know what s legal in an other country.
The regulation is under the 2005 gambling act. It's not very fun to read at all so I don't suggest you do. Just know that it means that it's all legal.
And gambling gains are exempt from income tax, just checked with HM R&C.
