$0.05/$0.10 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 6 Players

SB: $10.49 (104.9 bb)
BB: $18.42 (184.2 bb)
UTG: $11.42 (114.2 bb)
MP: $10.09 (100.9 bb)
CO: $7.25 (72.5 bb)
Hero (BTN): $10 (100 bb)

Preflop: Hero is BTN with K 9
3 folds, Hero raises to $0.30, SB calls $0.25, BB folds

Flop: ($0.70) 9 2 4 (2 players)
SB checks, Hero checks

Turn: ($0.70) 4 (2 players)
SB checks, Hero checks

River: ($0.70) 4 (2 players)
SB bets $0.50, Hero raises to $1.30, SB calls $0.80

Results:

Spoiler

$3.30 pot ($0.27 rake)
Final Board: 9 2 4 4 4
SB showed 5 5 and lost (-$1.60 net)
Hero mucked K 9 and won $3.03 ($1.43 net)

Villain is bad reg playing 19/9. AF2.

So given the action in this hand I know that I am always ahead on the river. Villain will have pp smaller than 9 here always. The strength of my hand is hidden.

Question is: how big can I raise otr. I made it small because I wanted to get calls from his pairs but I guess I could raise it bigger since my range looks(should look) weak in his eyes. What size do you make it?

Flop check I understand I guess, but the turn check back is madness. You have TPGK you might as well bet it.

As played I like the river raise. If you make it too big he'll just fold his ace high or 66 or whatever.

I think the sizing OTR is fine. If you make it too big, you probably won't get calls from small PPs and Ax. I agree with Perry on the turn - I dont see any reason to check back here.

Villain should bet almost all of his good hands and bluffs/fd;s OTT -> he doesn't really have anything. I prefer to get value on the river.

Yes, sometimes I will bet this hand ott.

I'm not sure if I understand even that flop check. Maybe if we had overcards for example the flop would not be optimal to cbet but here we have TPGK and villains range is wide. I would rather cbet this than see T,J,Q or A OTT. Turn check is just bad.

OTR villain doesn't rep anything. If he has air he will fold to a raise no matter how small. If he has a full house I doubt he will be able to fold it so you could bet even bigger.

As played I like the river raise. If you make it too big he'll just fold his ace high or 66 or whatever.

If we think that he will call a raise with A high then the sizing is ok. I doubt it. And I think that he will not fold any full houses. We do not rep much here either so if we just shove he can easily call with 66, we might be bluffing :f_pleased:

Flop check is pretty standard because the board is just so dry. I prefer to cbet polarized on these boards.

My standard line would be bet/check/bet or call. Or if I dont cbet this hand then my line would be check/bet/bet. It all just depends on the villain. vs a fish I could bet/bet/bet.
Also by checking otf I'm turning this hand into a bluffcatcher.

I'm not worried if my turn check was bad here - I bet turn with this hand ~99% of the times if the flop goes c/c. Just tried to take a different line than normally.
Imo its not bad to rarely take different line than usually even if it was now little bit -ev but in the long run it will confuse your villains(regs) and will be +ev.

I know that the standard line/"best" line here is to bet/bet or check/bet. I was going to write that into the original post so that you would not start to analyze them but I was too lazy.
I just wanted to know if I could get more value on the river now that I took this line.

The sizing on the river is fine in my opinion.

What I also don't like is that you checked back the turn. I believe you can get value there with your TPGK from pocket pairs, maybe some OCs, flush draws.

I like to cbet this flop. There are a ton of higher cards that will beat you on turn and river.
There are a ton of weaker hands to call you.
Turn is the right place for the delayed cbet.
River is ok.

I would cbet this flop as a standard too. We are most likely ahead (for now), so standard value bet. No need to think about our cbet frequencies or balancing. Not at this limit. And villain would need to have a HUGE sample to start figuring out how you play and exploit you.

Yes I admit that I do level too much in these limits.

Edit: Now that I have thought more about this hand I should have cbet it on the flop. There are better hands for checking back on this flop.

Thank you all for your answers! :f_thumbsup:

How would you play this hand if it would go check/check on the flop and then I bet turn and bet river and villain raises otr?

Well, based on preflop action I would pretty much exclude JJ+. After flop check he will call pretty much anything OTT. OTR he could be bluffing missed draws or repping something that he crearly cant have. He would 3bet JJ+ pre and raise with trips OTT. I really think you have the nuts and I would call his raise.

It depends on the size of the raise a little... :)
We should be thinking twice if we face a shove.

True. We probably will think twice but what do you think is the outcome? _cool:

Well, vs a shove, JJ-TTarevery possible. I will think and may be fold...

I like the small raise of less than 3x OTR. A rule of thumb we can assume is that when you bet big, your opponent will do what he already was planning to do. With a smaller bet or raise, your opponent most likely will evaluate once more and get often tricked into a call. WP IMO.

Me going blunt: The hand is very badly played (geez, slowplaying low TP), and you got rewarded the maximum. This is reflected in your comment in the OP, where you pat yourself on the shoulder, but humbly ask if you could possibly extract two cents more. Sorry for bluntness.

A small pair and ace high are essentially the same as a bluffcatcher, unless villain thinks we're turning A2s or 33 into a bluff.
