Villain is playing 17/13 in 900 hands with 13% raise Cbet flop; sort of a nitty reg with aggro tendencies in some spots, he once shoved me AQo OTR on a T high board with possible flush completed on that street.

PokerStars - €0.10 NL FAST (6 max) - Holdem - 6 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

BTN: 98.5 BB
Hero (SB): 96.4 BB
BB: 164.4 BB
UTG: 257.3 BB
MP: 117.8 BB
CO: 415 BB

Hero posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has T♠ T♣

fold, fold, fold, fold, Hero raises to 2.5 BB, BB calls 1.5 BB

Flop: (5 BB, 2 players) 2♣ 2♥ 9♦
Hero bets 3 BB, BB raises to 8.6 BB, Hero calls 5.6 BB

Turn: (22.2 BB, 2 players) 6♣
Hero checks, BB bets 12.4 BB, Hero calls 12.4 BB

River: (47 BB, 2 players) 6♦
Hero checks, BB bets 140.9 BB and is all-in, fold

Spoiler

BB wins 44.6 BB

As I said, villain is a nitty reg with some aggro tendencies in some spots, I do believe this one in particular is one of them.
Pref flop and flop I think it's standard.
Turn I x/c with the intention of letting him bet all of his 9x and bluffs with the plan of calling on most rivers, if not all of them.
River was sort of a surprise. I was very inclined to call because of the notes I have on him and because I think 2x will not be too much in his range. I ended up burning all of the time bank without a decision and crying fold after all.

Thoughts?

Pretty confusing hand but ye i think a fold is about right, villains not overlay aggressive with raising cbets probably higher than average for these stakes. But i wouldn't think to many continue with tripple barrel bluffs at 10nl.And being bvb villain can have plenty of 2x but i wouldn't argue with a crying call either i guess.

Tough to give him credit of 99 or 2x on the flop and 3bet/fold flop isn't great ether against a tight villain. You get only action of better and is your line fine I think.

Easy call man.

You can’t call this bet with anything in your perceived range and so it’s obviously a bluff.

Especially as we’ve seen this guy make those bluffs before.

I'm leaning more this way as well now tbh.

Not sure he had notes of 3barrel bluffs on him and board is pretty dry to bluff on.

I didn’t say he did SDK...

It’s the same sort of bluff because he probably has air or a couple overcards and is trying to rep the nuts. It’s a very expensive bluff too, many players aren’t capable of jam bluffing especially not with air!

His betsizing doesn’t make sense either. If he had the 2 he’d have been raising and betting the other two streets bigger.

Why would he suddenly change his strategy? It makes no sense.

I call bullshit.

I wouldn't say it's an easy call, but the more I look into it, the more I believe I should have called it :f_mad:

Interesting...
I think flop can be a small bet. Board is absurdly dry. He's check/raises may be some backdoors like 54s, 65s, 76s, 87s, JTs, T8s.
I think some 9x should also raise because your betting range is very wide.
Turn is meh. Some of his bluffs are dead, but you have a clear call.
OTR I think you can consider to hero call based on previous knowledge of his showdowns. The shove is ridiculous.
Having the T♣: is not great as you block some bluffs he may be doing this with.
He should also have more trips 2x (32s, K2s, Q2s, don't know if you open this from the SB) than you.

is the 2nd stat PFR? 13% PFR doesn't seem too Nitty isn't there some marginal raising hands in that range?
On average he doesn't have that many 9x hands in his range since he is only calling 4% of hands of the 17% total which 13% of it is being Pre-flop raised. This leaves a small calling range of either small pocket pairs or broad-way hands. In this hand he is getting a discount from the BB while getting to play IP so his hand can be slightly wider. he could hold A9s,K9s, T9s,or 99 OTF also likely is some Middle pocket pairs that he is overplaying or he has Face-cards and bluffing. If your intention was to call most rivers that was one of the best rivers for you to do so IMO. only a few combos beat you, over-pair's which he shouldn't have much of , 99 and a hand like A2s. he could have been trying to force you to fold a weaker holding with a hand like KQo, AJo, looking to pair on a later street. Villain may also think a hand like 88,77 is the best hand. Interesting spot I see your dillema. I think if your intention was to call down, the board was perfect for that since he has shown he can bluff with over-cards recently. So you have to be good about 50% to that river bet? we are beating A9s (4combos),K9s (4combos),55 (6combos),77(6combos),88(6combos) beating his possible bluffs which are and we are losing losing to 99(3 combos) A2s(2 combos),66(1combo) and Possibly JJ?(6combos)

4+4+6+6+6=26 overplayed combos we are beating

3+2+1+6=12 combos we are losing to + add in any broad-ways that hes bluffing with.

The question is if hes capable of overplaying middle pairs or if its polarized to either the complete nuts or a hand like AJo.

the nuts are 99, A2s, which are only 5 total combos, maybe he holds JJ sometimes?? I don't know is a nit really going to raise you OTF like that with the nuts?I know they play scared and raise like this but really? I like a call OTR because of past reads.

The nuts is a tiny portion of this guys range. He could have it. He could be trying to get us to make our hero call whilst having the nuts. As the two 6’s came down, he could be repping a bluff on purpose after recognising that on the river his range will almost never contain 6x.

He could be doing all that. It would take a lot of skill and he would have also made a mistake because the hero is obviously not the type of player to call the ob and so he missed value. This villain could be some high-stakes pro who is doing a training video or something like that, and poorly overestimated the hero’s calling ability.

But I doubt it.

This dude is some Level Two reg. he sees that we have very few 2x in our range and so decides to take this pot down without realising that he himself doesn’t have any 2x in his range.

That’s my guess... but maybe he has 66. You just never know.

Open raise pre bigger and cbet flop smaller. Flop and turn are pretty standard as you can also beat some stronger 9x villain could take such line for value.

On river we beat nothing from value range (versus reg) unless you have some serious hero call history. Most of 9x hands that could take this line are likely checking river or if A9 try to get value it would likely bet small.

So I would most often fold. Good thing to note is that villain is only shoving 73bb effective stack so it's only 1.5xpot. If he has 2x+ it will make lot of sense to go for it. This is very polarising river value spot versus SB range that can have 99 and any overpair. Some 2x also. Also spot where it's very difficult to show up with "natural bluffs" as flop is... Well as dry as it can get. Meaning it's very often under bluffed.

Anyway as villain value range is most likely 2x, 99 and very rare 66 it will actually make more sense to hero call 9x than any overpair. BB should be 3betting at least JJ+ preflop and taking line like this with TT or JJ would be quite big overplay.

PS: If shove was really 3xpot I would say his value range could be as tight as only 99+.

I tend to OR from the SB a standard 2.5x and go for 3 or 3.5x if a fish is there and I have value hands.
Is that wrong?
When you say to cbet smaller, what's the size you mean? Half pot max?
Thank you.

Well I have to note here that I dont play holdem cash. My main area has been on sng/mtt holdem. Main difference is that stacks are often lot smaller than 100bb.

Preflop I would use limping or 3bb open preflop in sng/mtt in general. Now as small stake cash has lot of rake limping is very likely not good option. We want to have chance to win pot preflop to not have to pay any rake. Only case where I would use limping in cash game on these stakes would be versus maniac to not face 3bet often. Basically default SB open raise size on cash should likely be between 3-4bb. Reason is we are always OOP and by using bigger open size we aim to to get BB to fold more. With 2.5bb sizing decent opponent will be defending extremely wide being in position and having great price to call or 3bet to be cheaper.

Now as always open sizes are not that black and white. If player pool folds similar frequency to 2.5bb or 3.5bb open we obviously want to use smaller to make stealing cheaper. So strategy you use can be totally fine and using exploiting size with big hands versus fish is also fine. But as default I would go bigger versus competent players with all of my range. But obviously e.g. regs on these stakes could be under defending anyway so yeah... It depends is the answer :)

Flop is extremely dry which we can cbet small as its tough for both to hit it. But we still have overall range advantage having all big pockets and big Ax. So as default I would cbet like 2bb with wide range and would expect lot of fold equity.
