[NL2] A9 - How to extract value?

Perhaps there is no value there to extract.

Your best hand is only good if there is a 2nd best hand out there that wants to compete.

There are not many hands that are going to want to compete.
A2-A8 maybe would call the flop, almost never the turn.
Maybe some broadway draws call a flop bet, and someone who doesn't believe you have an A might even x/r as a bluff.

AT-AJ have you beat.
Everything else folds.

I see that this is iPoker, and they are notoriously tight there, I find.

2nd final thought on this hand:
Are you playing MSS?
If so, you always raise preflop.
If not, you should always have a full stack.
Imagine how horrible it would be if BB has A8o and shoves over your bet on the turn.
You miss far more value than you were trying to extract in the first place.

OK -- I promise that this is my last thought (on this hand anyway).
There is a saying, "Never go broke in an unraised pot"
This exactly what this is, and SB and BB are just being cautious.

You really should check out the strategy-section here and choose a strategy you want to play.
MSS or BSS and playing strictly by the open raising charts is the way to go.
Playing with random stack size and open limping (calling 1 bb to see the pot when everyone else folded) is generally bad.

There is no value there, but the problem isn't with extracting value, it's with the basic strategy. There are some huge problems with your stack size, the I would never open limp that hand..

Ok some constructive feedback already.

For purpose of experience sharing, I started out playing with short stack strategy where i sit w minimum. Reason is i hv little roll. It can work to ur advantage because most decisions are made preflop and you are saved from expensive postflop mistakes. Second, people generally don't respect your raise as much, they make mistakes preflop by calling or reraising with lesser hands, and you gain value this way. So playing tight is key.

That said as your roll grows you want to sit w full stack to maximize return.

Re your play, calling first in w this hand preflop isn't tight aggressive at all. Not going to comment on the rest of the hand.

Yes you could have played it better, perhaps by raising it preflop.
