I am just wondering if I should bet or check back on this flop. Only thing that beats me is KKxx and I hold 1 K already and I have less than a pot size bet left.
I don't know if I am going to be called by anything that isn't the last kings or 8 though so is it better to check back and hope they bluff the turn ?
If you are ahead, you are very much ahead and if you are behind you are very much behind (vs KK) but that is only 1 single combo. So on average you can be sure you are very much ahead the vast majority of the time. Now even if they have a single King with just one potsized bet remaining, they will generally call but any type of rundown of course isn't going to call anything on this board no matter what you bet. But yes you do not have to protect your hand, as there is virtually no turn card that can beat you (of course like 5% of the time you will check to QQ and then the turn is a Q but that is very rare). Betting smaller here might also look very strong, and since you will be shoving here most of the time with just one potsized bet behind, I think the shove here should work just fine. In a 4 bet pot you would be surprised how light people stack off, a single king even so don't think you will only get folds here (or get called only by the supernuts) when you shove your last chips into the pot on this flop. But they MUST hit some piece of the board otherwise no they won't call. I don't think you played it bad, but since you flopped so strong of course you could decide to check and hope he bluffs into you on the turn (you don't have to protect your hand in a way ahead/way behind scenario anyway). If you check flop and he doesn't bet turn though, I don't know if it makes sense to not bet turn. Unless you think I will let him catch up to a better hand, but think about it, what hand will that be? No card can ever give him the nuts anymore, A is no good either and all other cards are undercards to the K and you already hold an 8. You might say if he has an 8 I can let him try to fill up to an underfull, but if he has an 8 he will also definitely call flop shove when he flops trips in a 4bet pot. Just my 2cents. GL
If he has K+ it doesn't matter what you do as it's less than SPR1. And you don't have to protect your hand. So you should be concentrating to how to get most value when he doesn't have K+. And the answer to that is to check and at least give him a chance to bluff or hit something.
