hi,

read less. I defended my blind to show him early on that he cant steal to loose. In the early, it didn't cost me that much chips and my hand play it well ip. As played I can't do much because of his ps bet. Thought about calling flop check turn.

It seems alright to me as well. With only 3 clean outs for the nuts it’s tough to continue the flop.

Cheers,

how much do you defend here? I know it depends on the villain but due to the odds.

I like the call preflop. Yeah, on this flop I think we cannot call with just a gutshot.

Personally would defend something like 22+, A2s+, K2s+, Q2s+, J2s+, T2s+, 92s+, 82s+, 72s+, 62s+, 52s+, 42s+, 32s, A2o+, K2o+, Q5o+, J5o+, T5o+, 96o+, 85o+, 75o+, 64o+, 54o. With antes you just get such great pot odds to defend from position that would defend all suited hands and most of offsuit as well. Some by 3betting though range for that should be pretty polarized as default. But of course depends on postflop edge also.

Flop fold should be fine versus pot size cbet on really coordinated flop. Main problem is that 9 or 8 is less likely to be good versus that bet. Would still call if having one heart.

that looks so unreal. But ok I like. What If he raised pre more than 3BB? Don´t you think you loose too much $ev? I can imagine that's fine defending this wide from a chip ev perspective.

Another question is: Do you defend this wide from 25 to 14BB too? If you got less than 14 its more or less a push or fold game. With more than 25BB it should be fine.

And how do you adjust if you raise the sb and got defended nearly 100% of the time?

I think ICM effect to defending range at so early is extremely small even in 9man sng. Thing is that we are 8 handed with 15% antes (which is pretty big) so if we compare 3bb sizing to minraise in game without antes pot odds are almost identical. In here 40 to pot of 144 --> 40 / 144 * 100 = 27.8% and without antes with minraise its 25%

From raw preflop equity we should defend any2. E.g. 27o versus top 60% range has 30% equity. Now problem is that some of hands (especially weaker offsuit ones) have hard time to realize that equity or rarely hits much of semibluff spot possibilities. Suitedness will add few percent to preflop raw equity but it will also open more possibilities for floats or semibluffs. Of course some holdings have problem of weak kicker but at same time versus SB raise from active player some e.g. K2o will still play decently.

Now if we want to defend really wide we have to have good postflop skills as there will be spots where we have to make stands with weaker hands and find those spots to raise. Or we might want to fold that top pair to second bet. But this doesnt mean making some absurd big bluffs with zero equity hands most of time. Point is that lot of flops we will just give up and move to next hand. Lot of hands wont even really make profit but it will likely still be less expensive than just folding and giving up that BB straight away. e.g. if we defend some crappy hand and after 1000 of those defends our winrate is -60bb/100 it will still be lot better than folding and losing -100bb/100

When stack size goes down it will start to be more problematic to defend versus 3bb especially imo. Like if you have 10bb it starts to be really questionable to call versus 3bb size as its such big chunk of your stack. With 12-13bb ok in some spots. Versus minraise I will still defend some hands with 7-8bb stacks. E.g. lets say you have 78s and SB minraises and you both have 8bb. Its plausible that villain still raise-folds but usually its rare. Still we have hand that will flop decent pairs and also have option to hit draws nicely. Now one thing to consider in these spots is villain type. If villain has been reggy looking you definitely have to be worried that his minraise range this shallow could be mainly traps. Which means we should be pretty tight in defending. But then again good amount of recreational could still minraise lot of clear shoving hands like A5, KT, Q8s, etc. If that is likely the case then you want to ask is it better to flat some of hands that cannot be shoved but has good flop playability.

Versus good player defending wide one solid adjustment is to start open limping lot more from SB. That way you keep pot smaller and can continue way easier versus raise compared to facing 3bet. Also as raising wont get lot of folds you dont lose much from not having fold equity from open raise. Some will use style where they limp everything they want to play and then form limp-fold, limp-call, limp-3bet ranges. Other option is to mixed tactic and form limping and raising ranges. Later one is harder to keep in balance but yeah this area is not something to worry about in micro or small stake games imo. Also using bigger than 3bb raise size is fine versus good opponent if you are having raising and limping ranges.
