Hi,i think its my first post on this section but since i still dont have HM2 i write the hands i lost and i got doubts

So here we go,im on a 180man sng

Im 4/10 and i have 30k,im really well and i know im going to the ft.My table has been or shove/fold or 3bet/fold.I was playing a bit tight since i wanted to go to ft with 30k to go comfortable

Now,im at the SB and i see A8 clubs, everyone folded to me,we are only 5 ppl in the table.the BB,who only has 2 more big blinds than me,has been playing tight as well,i shove to blindsteal...he calls..a9 offsuit And wins a 60k pot..i was shocked..really thought i was going to ft,going out on 10th when i had 30k

My question is?Is my play bad?Is his play good?I think we both played bad, dont know, will wait for your opinions :)

I guess this depends on how much BB is?
If you are deep enough to just standard raise/4bet or raise/fold I would prefer one of those lines as it is stronger than straight shove with say for example 20BB.
If you are less than 10BB deep then shove here is fine and his call is probably too loose but also understandable.

Hey TooSickMan!

Welcome to the english hand evaluation forums! You can also let stars send you the hand histories per mail for the future... A hand history is always easier to read than an explanation!

5handed with 15bb against a 17bb stack a8s is very nice hand. Especially if the table is aggroish!

You have 2 options here against player are not TOTAL ROCKS
Against the sickest nit you can probably minr/f a8s -> but even nits can shove you loser sometimes in this phase. So it would still be pretty tough to fold!

If you have reads that villain calls shoves lightly... any ax, most kx and suited qx hands, broadways and so on you can just shove for max value!

If you know villain is restealing light -> just raise to 2.5bb and call off a shove then -> I'm sure a tag reshoves soo many combinations that you're ahead with a8s!

And don't look too much on bringing 30k to the ft -> If you have such a good spot to double your chips against a weaker range (if you r/c) its decent!

Greets,
Tiltberger

Thanks man, that was really helpful.Just 1 thing,i dont understand some terms here, what does r/c means?IM not getting it.
So when you say dont look too much bringing 30k you are saying that i should not be afraid of making these kind of plays against bigger/equal stacks? Is that it?

Well,he was a tight player,never thought he called,thanks 1 more time :)
