I've looked into poker since the age of 14 and have been playing both online (tho that's only been for play money obv) and IRL ever since. I have played for money with some friends before in a tournament sort of style and usually won or got second (although I should add that half of them just knew the rules and that was it). I started a PokerStars account a few days ago and after starting with I believe 150k, after getting second in a 50k tournament with ~500 participants and some other cashes I'm currently at 800k. I know it means pretty much nothing playing with fake money but it did get me more interested in poker again after not playing a lot for a while. I would love to open a small bankroll when I turn 18, which is in about 1 year and 1 month, and try to make some money of of it and get some more experience. But I have a few questions that hopefully somebody can help me out with.
- Where's a good place to learn more about poker?
I've watched Everything Poker by Pokerstars probably twice already, but half of that is pure advertising so it doesn't seem like a very good place to start.
- What's the best place to practice?
- Is it possible to open a bank roll in the Netherlands on PokerStars (/is it a hassle)?
I know that the laws in the Netherlands regarding gambling are very strict, yet I can't really find any info whether PokerStars is banned or not. And if so, could I still play using VPN? Perhaps any Dutch player can help me out?
- What games should I play when starting out?
Let's say I start out with €20 (~$25 IIRC). What would be the best games to play? I personally don't really like cash games since you could lose your whole roll after a bad beat yet you can most likely win more money from a tournament. But from a few posts I've been seeing here it seems like most people are playing '0.01/0.02' or '0.02/0.04' which I assume are cash games with these numbers as the blinds (my poker lingo isn't great, let alone online poker lingo). So I'm not sure whether cash games are 'better' to play with a small bankroll, but since I prefer tournaments in general anyway I would rather play them.
