Hi Folks:
Thank you for reading my thread. I look forward to a fruitful journey with all of you.
I was never a gambler. Somehow I picked up roulette in the 90's over the casino boom. I lost a lot of money. A friend, GM at Casino Holland Airport, told me to learn Card Counting. Hopefully after grinding all night I wouldn't spend it all on one spin. And he was RIGHT.
I became a proficient card counter. It is a good feeling to constantly beat the house. In return, they kick me out frequently. I knew I was on borrowed time. I went online to learn Poker 15+ years ago. I had a good sense of the game online, but was lost on the felt. Going from a pro to a newbie I thought I would start poker AFTER I get barred for life. So far no life ban, so no poker yet.
Over Pandemic, I have time to revisit Poker. WOW ranges? GTO? Nash Eq? what are we? Math Grad School? lol
From my experience, to be an AP, one usually needs:
1. Skills;
2. Discipline;
3. Patience;
4. Bankroll.
I think I am OK with all but (1) in poker.
I have learned opening ranges in different positions. I know pot odds and am learning equity. I have the fundamentals of different types of players and approaches to play against them. I have PokerTracker4 and am installing Equilab.
I am very in touch with my Psychological Effect of Risk Taking. I am prepared to invest 6-8 hours of play and 2 hours of review/study per day, hopefully for less than 4 years. I believe in skills rather than luck. I only wager money I am prepared to lose. I am thinking $100 initial buy in until I think I am proficient. I would like to stay with 0.4-0.6 Kelly of $50K initial BR and hopefully can dble up every 1000-2000 hours of play.
Questions:
1. Is my growth pattern realistic?
2. A friend knows someone with a $650K career tourney winnings and another friend knows Hellmuth (she works with his wife). How important it is to trade notes with them?
3. If yes, what level should I be at before I meet them?
4. Is coaching necessary?
5. How do I know a good one from bad?
Good, Bad or Ugly all ideas are valuable please.
Thank you in advance.
