Being thrashed by LAGs

I'm being absolutely pummeled by loose aggressive players in no limit cash games. Pokerstrategy's TAG strategy seems to fail miserably. I can't compete no matter what I do. In a 1c 2c game I lost 10 bucks and only won like 20 cents, it was an epic fail. Is LAG a better strategy? Where to learn it?

Hi phatenuff,
I feel your pain.

Have a look at this rather old but still relevant strategy article:
https://www.pokerstrategy.com/strategy/bss/five-player-types/

Being a TAG isn't all there is to it. It is necessary to modify your ranges based on who follows you.
If you have 3 people following you — BTN, SB and BB that fold too much you can auto-profit merely by open raising with a wider range. This is especially true if they don't 3Bet much.

Against players that 3Bet widely, you can tighten up, then 4 Bet.

If you're trying to use a GTO-based strategy, bear in mind that this won't work at all against players that play either too many hands or too few.

It may also be necessary to learn the customary strategy of the room. On 888 for example, there are large numbers of people that limp any two cards (or so it seems) yet other players limp then jam over any raise. Taking notes is important too — especially if you play at the same room all the time.

Is LAG a better strategy?

Was 38/30/10 VPIP/PFR/3bet on nl2 with 8/100 winrate. I dont know if it's better strategy but was definitely fun because players got mad on me and spew their money.

The key to this strategy is to learn how to lose credibility in the other players eyes without losing money so your big hands get paid off.

These players are "LAGs" because you let them being "LAGs". They jump on your heads because you let them do that! It's your fault. They see that you are way tight/nitty and exploit this by widen their ranges. So you have to combat them and show them that you are fearless.

If they have some awareness waiting for premiums only is a big mistake. They will know and understand that when you enter the pot or 3bet you have something so they will raise you only when you are beaten

Where to learn it?

On the tables. Practice is the best teacher. Good luck!

It's depends also a lot if you play micro or higher limits what the best strategy is to get a high winrate I think. Overall it's also good to game select if that's possible. If you join tables with a high VPIP and low PFR it's most of the time more interesting than playing tables with tables with only TAG's and LAG's on the table.
