It's time to whine again. People say whining doesn't solve problems, but it sure as hell makes me feel better. Now, I worked my roll on Cake all the way up to $1430, and then lost about $50 at the cash tables so I moved to the $25 HU SnG's I often play. Which cost me an astounding amount of $300 yesterday since I started playing like a moron towards the end. So now I'm down $300 and looking for a quick way to get it back...

Hi Berzerger,

Don't look for quick ways to make your money back! It sounds like you are tilting now (we've all been there!), the best thing to do is take a break and look at why you are losing money. Maybe you are playing too aggressively and trying to win too many pots, thats not a good idea.. If you play well the money will start to trickle in, but if you don't have the right mindset then you will make poor decisions, which is why it is best to take a break.

I suggest reading the psychology articles and come back to poker with a strong head. Best of luck to you.

Regards,
Sarah

I know this a a stressfull time but the first think i thought when you mentions losing to QQ v AK in the MTT was this

If your 2nd in chips why are you even entering into a coin flip situation?

I just needed someone to rub it in for me. I know that chasing losses makes you lose more money, but I just feel awful for dropping $500 (including today). How come losses always happen in a matter of minutes while winnings take weeks for the same amount? ?(

I'll take a break for a day or two. Need to make myself feel good. Not that it'll help any, the moment I get back to the tables I'll start thinking about my losses anyway :f_frown:

Yeah, poker is a game n its meant to be fun, if you find yourself not enjoying the game there really isn't much point in playin n makin urself feel stressed unnecessarily.

Go out, have some fun n forget about the game for now :)

Sarah

when I feel depressed, I constantly watch 5 videos in youtube. One of them is always this one. I can't stop myself without laughing

I'm down $700. I quit SnG forever.

It seems that regardless what I play or how I play it, I lose money. Last month I had $1600, now I have $350. I'm not even in a condition to make jokes about this. Something is seriously wrong, I keep investing my time in improving my play, and as a result I lose over $1k in little more than a month. Poker stopped being fun for me. I really don't know what to do at this point. I lost EVERY heads-up match I played the past two days, including one time where I was 98.6% favorite. And every time I start a session, I tell myself "tonight it's going to be different," play my A-game thinking I got a fresh start, but somehow I keep losing anyway...

Hey man,

I'm currently In the same boat as you. Fortunatly, my friends here on Pokerstrategy kept pushing me to put my chin up and get better.

One MAJOR breakthrough in my stoptilt&detox process was reading the psycological articles. After reading your posts, I think you need the same.

The biggest sticking point so far (I'm halfway through reading) was that on the lower limits and with low limit players, what seems to be a downswing is more often a result of bad play.

Another big leak I have is that I dont study nearly enough theory.

Take two days off, infest your mind with something else, and start playing again. :)

After some intense relaxation and 500ml of strawberry ice cream I'm up to $530, I hope it'll continue this way...

Just 2 days playing NL20. 2 sessions, but it already feels like I'm literally not allowed to win. I'm down 5 stacks, and every time it's the same retarded scenario. I play for a long time to slowly and painstakingly make a tiny profit when I get a good hand like AKs, AA or KK and lose a full stack. I'm talking about stuff like this:

Known players:
[tg]Position_Stack:hands/vp$ip/RaisePreflop/AF/WTS/ORL/BBvsSteal/W$SD;SB$18,72:334/24 /7 /2,8/34 /27 /33 /52 ;MP1$8,00:47/60 /17 /3,0/30 /50 /100 /43 ;Hero$19,70:///////;[/tg]
0,1/0,2 No-Limit Hold'em (7 handed)
Hand recorder used for this poker hand: PokerStrategy Elephant 0.67 by www.pokerstrategy.com.

Preflop: Hero is BU with K♠, K♦
MP1 calls $0,20, 3 folds, Hero raises to $1,00, SB calls $0,90, 2 folds.

Flop: ($2,40) 2♠, T♣, Q♥ (2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $1,80, SB raises to $3,60, Hero raises to $10,00, SB raises to $17,72 (All-In), Hero calls $7,72.

Turn: ($37,84) Q♣
River: ($37,84) 8♠ (1 players)

Final Pot: $37,84

Results follow (highlight to see):
Hero shows two pairs, kings and queens (Ks Kd)
SB shows three of a kind, queens (As Qs)

SB wins with three of a kind, queens (As Qs)

Every time. Every single one, when I'm playing for stacks this happens. And my winnings are nullified, the whole session progress is set back to zero and even further. I thought today it'd go better, but it's all just a big waste of time, it just keeps going on an on. Play half an hour for a small profit and lose double as much in one hand. I'll just play SnG's on Mansion instead, cash games are a waste of time anyway if this won't stop.

The mind battle is very tough, but if you can calm down and figure out why you are losing then you can win it.
I would rather lose while playing well than win by playing bad and sucking out. This because I know I will win in the long run by playing well, can't suckout for ever.
At the moment you are obviously on tilt so stop playing imo.
Whining might make you feel better but doesnt fix the actual problem.

I know how you feel, I had the same problems and lost about as much as you.

1. Stick to only one type of poker (I played HU, SnG's, some MTT's, tried omaha etc, now I only play SSS)
2. Learn everything there is about the type you chose.
3. Stick to BRM
4. Constantly improve your game (articles, videos, hand evaluation).
5. Tilt management: read psychology articles, never play on tilt. Stop instantly, when you get the feeling you have to make up the losses you got due to someone sucking out on you.

Yesterday someone called my all-in on turn and rivered a set of threes to bust my kings. He had 4% chance to get it and instead of tilting I smiled and calculated, how much money i will win on average from such players.

Start from the beginning. You have the BR you have, you haven't lost anything, you haven't won anything, so you do not have to make up losses etc.

You can't change your luck, but you can change how you deal with bad beats and minimize the losses due to tilt. And you can improve your game, cause in the long term, it's not lack of luck that takes your money, it's lack of skills and self control.

I thought I was a lost case, busted my roll twice, started third time, almost tilted away my roll several times again, but have managed to come out of this hole and become a winning player.

i wonder what type of poker you should play when tilt is a big problem for you? what type of rooms/strategy can most quickly put you on a downswing?
what are the biggest threats in each type of poker that will get you to a downswing?

i ask this because when i play SSS and get a hand like KK and loose it it will not cause me any problems unless i have already lost alot on that day/session. on the other hand when i get such a hand after getting in the late phase of a SnG and loose it it will feel much wurse. just wanting to know your opinions, im not on a downswing, i just played badly and lost all my profit + $20 of my starting capital/bonus.

So im learning some more theory and hoping to go back up again. but i realy dont want to tilt again and loose another significant part of my BR. Now my BR doesnt allow me to play what i enjoy most, Matrix SNG and something like the $10k daily dollar. I realy enjoyd those the most, and my matrix game has a steady ROI of about 8%, whilst my SSS has brought me up in the start, it seems to be dragging me down a whole lot nowadays, i feel like maybe SSS just ain't my thing, but my BR doesnt allow what i enjoy. Any thoughts? maybe ill go back to where i started.. fixed limit. but that's just so so very boring.

Play what you like, but ALWAYS stay in BRM

Dont play for fun, play to win remember that your BR is whats important, doesnt matter what the game is as long as your making profit. Dont get discouraged when your KK gets busted by 2-5 or something, its very common dont let it change your play.

Expect to lose money, and be surprsied when your coming out on top. Try to get a feel for the players, sometimes folding the high pockets is worth while.

Dont rush anything, building a bankroll takes time, even $1 dollar a day is good profit. Before you know it you will be a high roller in vegas :P.

I principally don't like profanities, but this is really fucking bullshit. I lost $150 playing $11 SnG's on Pacific. 8 suckouts, ran into AA once, rest were stealraises called by better hands. Last one I played was a $22 $5k guaranteed tourney. I went all-in with AK on KQx board, opponent calls all-in with AQs. Yes, all-in with 2nd pair. He gets runner-runner flush and I lose 22 dollars. I'll just continue playing $11 with what's left of my money, if I go broke then at least I'll rid myself of this ridiculous platform. :f_mad:

EDIT: on top of everything, aces just lost to kings...

EDIT2: just lost 3 more. Random cards just randomly make me lose every single time. The site isn't rigged, but I just can't handle this variance. I lost my entire roll on Pacific. 3 days of good play and $190 earned are now all wasted...

What did you say? No, I'm not going to whine about Pacific again, who gave you that idea? Even though it is true that I went through hell to turn the last $0.60 I had left (from my $190 I had just two days ago before my downswing started) into $30, and all of a sudden I'm almost literally not allowed to win. Yes, again. And yes, I did lose 7 SnG's out of last 9 due to suckouts, except for one where I push into the last player left with AQ and he calls with AK. Every time something comes in between to prevent me from cashing. Even double-or-nothing tournaments, which are supposed to be ultra easy at microlimits at pacific, are for some reason impossible to win money at. I've been down to $5 from the $30 I recovered this morning. I've been playing break even for the past 6 DoN's because I always lose one for every two I play. Why is this happening? I don't know. How improbable is this? I don't know. Is it going to stop soon? I don't know. I've lost the 7th DoN and now playing out the 8th one which I'd better win to have $15 left. If I don't, I'm not even gonna try anymore...
