Taking notes

What I wrote is pretty long and I'm not sure if it would help me next time we met again.

"calls to turn with 8-high gutshot then bluffs 1/2 pot on river"

Still kinda wordy

"bluffs river 1/2 pot busted gutshot"

If you are going to take notes while playing try using just key words, fractions ( numbers ) , decimals, all things that let you identify your opponent's movements or intentions easily. Otherwise, wait for the pause or in some break to make any necessary changes.

This is what I use, I am always modding this to make it simpler, as I like to make my notes as detailed as possible with out having to read to much, I used to write essays, but now this is what works for me.

SP = super passive

Pas = passive

BS = big station

stn = station

BF = big fish

rs=hs - raise size = hand strength

bs=hs - bet size = hand strength

OC = over call

OvC = over cards

MD = min donk

MB = min bet

HP = half pot

SH = strong hand - I use this for anything that's 2p +

1p = 1 pair

2p = 2 pair

2ndP = 2nd pair

btmP = bottom pair

LP = limp pot

3b = 3bet

3bp = 3bet pot

blf = bluff

brk = brick

dnk = donk

nt = not

flp = flop

t = turn

r = river

x = check

Before making notes first identify the player type. Then add abbr. notes. But keep them very short. I usually stop taking notes on a player after I have made four lines of information on them. Some notes are more important than others. A few examples of my note taking are:

Folded to c/bet / Ace flop

Call 20 fish

RAL (rag ace lover).

Gutshot fish

TP WK FISH (top pair weak kicker)

Stacks off TP TK / AK

Pot controls TP WK or TP TK

Pays to draw

Checks busted draws / or / Bluffs busted draws

Donked made set / or / TP TK

Donks weak made hands

Check folded flop

Bluffs if checked to

3/bet AA (write range)

4/bet AA (write range)

use note caddy on holdem manager. it does notes for you.

I don't use Holdem manager. I have Hand2note.

Hard to take note on this. I guess there are so many similar plays.

He calls flop, which he should, nice odds.. He check/calls your cbet with GS and backdoor FD. It may not be profitable, against 2/3 c-bet OOP and mostly he should fold. But I think sometimes he can call actualy. There are a lot of good turns, which can give him chance to check-raise turn for semi-bluff (ofc diamonds mostly). But turn comes bad for him. And then comes river. He say you got scared from ace and checked. And beause one more king came on board, he can expect you don´t have king, because 2 on board. So he fires bluff to take you down, and honestly If you´ve had anything else weaker than single pair Ax, he would succeed with his bluff.
So you don´t know whether is he fish or not. He may be station chasing GS, but he may be reg with some mixed hand play, chasing GS or planning to bluff you.

For micro stakes you should be table selecting and playing exploitative poker only. So it is more important to recognise the player style you are up against to effectively exploit their unbalanced play. Here are the player types I identify using 3 simple HUD stats of VPIP, PFR and AF.

Examples I identify at full ring. Having colour coded a particular playing style it's much easier to exploit them even without notes. Note how some playing styles include preflop and post flop styles of play.

15/13/40 - TAG

15/10 / 20 - TIGHT PASSIVE

20/17/40 - SLAG

20/8/20 - SLIGHTLY LOOSE PASSIVE

40/3/15 - LOOSE PASSIVE

40/30/20 - MANIAC / PASSIVE
