I understand how the odds of making a hand work.

What I'm having trouble with is how to quickly determine if I'm getting sufficient pot odds.

Then I noticed something.
At breakeven, The pot ratio (pot / bet) will equal (useless cards/ useful cards)

So, all I need to do is multiply the odds from the chart by the required bet.
If the pot is bigger than the answer, then I'm OK
(ignoring all other factors for the moment).

I've tried this several ways, and I think it is correct.

-- Or am I making a terrible mistake that will cost me in the long run.

Oh, one other thing...
I generally don't look more than one street ahead -- if I'm looking at the flop, I'm only looking for pot odds on the turn. Is that also a big mistake?

If you are using the chart with the odds and outs, its just the ratio between pot and betsize.

For example:

You are drawing to a flushdraw with 9 Outs.

You need 4 to 1 for one street.

The Pot is 10$, your oppent betting 5$, so you have to call 5$ and in the pot are 15$.

So your Odds are 3 to 1.

This means that you need more winning on further streets, calle implied odds.

Just the call on the flop is theoretically not correct.
